I think the Russian burst that bubble and Xi had learned a lot of lesson from observing.
Agreed, but that fearful reaction is just another extreme. Plus, while I am certain Xi definitely took some lessons from the war, the responses of the PLAN and Chinese Coast guard exhibit boldness and level-headedness that the Chinese people and military civilian commentators seriously need to adopt.

PLA extends patrol to maritime, aerial joint exercise in S.China Sea as US, Philippines scale down patrol amid tensions

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) extended its two-day routine patrol in the South China Sea into a third day of joint exercises on Friday, in a move experts said displayed China's determination and capability in safeguarding national sovereign security and maritime rights, as the US and the Philippines reportedly scaled down their joint patrol in the region.

The PLA Southern Theater Command on Friday organized a regular maritime, aerial joint exercise in waters in the South China Sea, the PLA Southern Theater Command said in a press release on Friday.

It closely followed a two-day regular patrol by naval and air forces of the PLA Southern Theater Command in the South China Sea from Wednesday to Thursday, when the command vowed to have its troops on high alert to resolutely safeguard national sovereign security and maritime rights, and bring any military activity that upset the situation or create tension in the region under control.

At the same time as the Chinese patrol, the Philippines and the US also conducted a two-day joint patrol in the South China Sea from Wednesday to Thursday, the second such operation held between the two countries since November last year and which was scheduled to see the participation of four Philippine naval vessels and four US warships including an aircraft carrier, according to a Wednesday report by Reuters.

Doesn't look like China is backing down.

Well China see an opportunity and they're punching back, where's Japan? they had just issued a joint communique declaring their intention to support the Philippines so where are they?....lol The Chinese had just kill three birds with one stone with this action, The Philippine, the US reputation and Japan.

From my understanding the US was forced by both Japan and Marcos to do this patrol, Marcos was relieved that the American finally answered the call albeit from lower rank official (Kurt Campbell), they are trying to contact Blinken thru the Philippine ambassador to the US, Jose Manuel Romualdez the cousin of BBM with NO LUCK, so you can sense the urgency, all of those media noises and shit show in the SCS about Chinese aggressiveness are aimed primarily to force the US to act, they were the target audience NOT us.

The US had made a huge mistake by making us a part of Anti China coalition, the tip of the spear, we're a liability to them and this issue showcase the American inability to project power anymore, it only highlight that the US is a paper tiger which is dangerous for most of us here in the region, especially for Singapore , SK and Japan who cast their lot with the American.
