Why doesn't China just pullout all the investments in the Philippines even basic things? Maybe the Americans will print them a quadrillion dollars?
I have made prior statements and sort of prediction that the potential conflict in that part of the world will not be ignited by the separatists from Taiwan but rather the pig headed actions of the Filipinos hell bent on testing the patience of the PLA/China and its Supreme overconfidence with U.S. defense treaty and romanticized history of WWII with MacArthur's "I shall return" spiel that's been immortalized and engraved to every Filipinos. The Filipinos think of themselves as the 52nd state of the U.S. rather comically. I mean, have you seen how the elites of that country swallow every American propaganda as gospel truth. It is unfortunate that the situation has escalated to the point where it is now, I was hoping for a softer scenario where China and PH can set aside differences in the SCS and pursue agreements that's mutually beneficial for both parties. None of this would have happened if it weren't for the US meddling in Philippine politics, which makes it even more frustrating.
During the Duterte administration and the period before Covid, Chinese businesses and tourism were flourishing in the PH, I saw this as a good opportunity and if only the trend continued on there would have been increased Chinese immigration to the Philippines, with a larger Chinese population, the Filipino Chinese diaspora would have had a bigger voice and influence in politics, which can be instrumental in swaying the government to take a more moderate approach in its policies towards China.
I believe Temstar correctly identified this incident. It was an exercise and a demonstration.PCG today released photos of Chinese ships around Renaijiao around the time of the incident, there were six CCG ships, two PAFMM and one PLAN 056A:
It served both sides well honestly, China showed that it can police the ocean right up to Philippines shores and meanwhile Filipino politicians can use this to drum up nationalism and garner domestic popularity against the long term interest of their nation. If only SEA nations would collabrate with China in exploiting natural resources within the SCS.I believe Temstar correctly identified this incident. It was an exercise and a demonstration.
The exercise was combined PLAN-CCG-MM maneuver operations whose doctrine has been cited elsewhere. The CCGV 5402 was using its fire-fighting equipment for a non-contact repulse of the Green Hull but if the Green Hull slipped away the MRRV 4409 was positioned to contact shoulder it away from the BRP Sierra Madre.
The demonstration was for the USN, both leadership and deployed personnel, of China's maritime capabilities.
The opportunity was presented and China accepted.
Are you sure? It seem to be plastered all over the news at the moment.I looked into bbc, nytimes, wsj, cnn & msnbc wondering if I'm the odd ball here. And no, no mention of it in front pages anywhere. The only possible heated headlines were related to China & Russia joint patrol around Alaska.
Literally, nobody cares about this outside of Philippines & China!
if you have to search to find it and it's not on the front page news or widely disseminated on twitter, nobody cares. The usual band of characters are shouting about Alaska. Nobody cares about water cannons in SCSAre you sure? It seem to be plastered all over the news at the moment.
But it's also not really the first time this had happened, this was in november 2021 for example:
