We can bet none of these judges has ever been to SCS and seen the features for themselves. Old foreigner bureaucrats sitting in high chairs in ivory towers made rulings based on photographs, second or third hand accounts. Taiping is a rock? A rock can't have a runway, or naturally occurring fresh water . These old farts are as stupid and dumb as they come regardless of their titles.

I believe that's what the US wants. If war starts now, US would still have the upper hand. If US waits a few more years, they would have no advantage left. The choice for US is both logical and obvious.

I highly doubt that. After the debacle, high casualties, PTSD, and high rate of suicide by veteran's not many American's are itching for another foreign conflict or war over some small reefs or islands thousands of miles away. In order to motivate the gullible public into a war there has to be a 9/11 like incident to happen and I'm not seeing that anytime soon or into the future.

That's what I been saying for a long time, both Japan and US wants to pick a fight with China now because they still have the upper hand. if war cannot happen, they want to at least getting international support on putting sanctions on China to stunt China's economic growth like they did to Russia and Iran. But even that option is looking insane for majority of the world because now China is the largest trading partner with almost all the country in the world.

China is the 2nd largest (soon to be #1 of the world) economy and Russia is like somewhere in the middle (like Italy or so someone says). Sanctioning China would hurt them more than compare to the sanctioning against Russia, and look how the EU is in now with Brexit and much slow down in growth. Now imagine what China could do to return the favor, that's NOT even including how much foreign cash reserves in BOTH dollars and Euros(in Trillions) to blunt the sanctioning outcome.. AND debt China holds on these countries.

Taiwan sends warship to South China Sea
TAIPEI: A Taiwanese warship set sail for the South China Sea on Wednesday “to defend Taiwan’s maritime territory”, a day after an international tribunal ruled China has no historic rights in the waterway and undermined Taipei’s claims to islands there.

President Tsai Ing-wen rallied troops on the deck of the frigate, saying Taiwanese were determined to “defend their country’s rights”, before the warship headed for Taiwan-controlled Taiping island in the Spratly island chain from the southern city of Kaohsiung.

The Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague ruled Tuesday that China has no historic rights to its claimed “nine-dash line” and that it had violated the Philippines’ sovereign rights in the exclusive economic zone.

Crucially for Taipei, it ruled that Taiwan-administered Taiping, the largest island in the Spratlys chain, was legally a “rock” that did not give it an exclusive economic zone, undermining Taiwanese claims to waters surrounding the island.

Taiwan’s government said the ruling was “completely unacceptable” and had no legally binding force since the arbitral tribunal did not formally invite Taipei to participate in its proceedings or solicit its views.

“The South China Sea ruling, especially the categorisation of Taiping island, has severely jeopardised our country’s rights in the South China Sea islands and their relevant waters,” Tsai told soldiers on the deck of ship in footage broadcast by news channels.

“This patrol mission will show Taiwanese people’s determination to defend their country’s rights,” she said, before disembarking from the warship ahead of its departure.

The defence ministry vowed to “firmly defend Taiwan’s territory and sovereignty” and said there would be no change to Taiwan’s claims in the strategic seas because of the ruling.

It brought the deployment of the warship forward by a day in reaction to the ruling.

The ministry said in a statement it would continue to send aircraft and ships for patrol missions to the region and remain “highly vigilant” to protect national security.

Tsai’s predecessor Ma Ying-jeou visited Taiping in January to press Taiwan’s claims and show that Taiping is an island, not a rock, in a move that triggered criticism from the United States as well as protests from Vietnam and the Philippines.

Problem is, Taiwan isn't a country. Other than that, I appreciate Governor Tsai's actions to support China's position.

Like it or not, the PCA "old farts" you mentioned enjoy massive support in western media, and can't be dismissed so easily. Pursuing national interests is understandable, but the social, political, and national image damage they cause are real and will need to be managed with guile and finesse.

the kangaroos of hague have finally delivered their rulings, does anyone know the jp judge who appointed all the kangaroos to the circus is a corrupt crook who was forced to resign from the jp cabinet after being found of taking bribes?

does the hague circus do something like a background check to see if a guy is fit to be a judge? or they may just need a crook in the first place?
