The pinoys didn't remember the lesson of the finger, maybe they want something more.

This situation is not at all comparable to Second Thomas. These ships are being replaced precisely because they are not permanent. The difference between an anchored ship and a grounded ship is that one doesn't move while the other can't move.

"Semi-grounded" doesn't make much sense. Either the ship is grounded or it's not. And this one is not.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi raised concern over the missile system during bilateral talks on the sidelines of ASEAN meetings in Laos on Friday.

“He said it could be destabilizing, the presence (of missiles), and I said ‘no, they’re not destabilizing,’ ” Manalo told a forum with foreign correspondents.

“I believe that (the) particular missiles he’s referring to are only there temporarily,” he added.

This guy Manalo is stupid if he thinks Wang Yi can be convinced by Manalo's belief. So Manalo does not know if the missiles are permanent or temporary. Just another asinine pledge from the Philippines.

 8月19日,未经中国政府允许,菲律宾4410、4411号海警船非法冲闯中国南沙群岛仙宾礁邻近海域,中国海警对菲侵权船只依法依规实施管控措施。(总台央视记者 国鹏)

Philippine Coast Guard ship 4410 and 4411 got too close to Sabina Shoal, they found out. Probably something bigger than the last finger axing operation.

Our friendly American is acting dumb again by pretending this was all unprovoked and he didn't know what was going to happen.

For context, this was China's MFA's response on Aug 16th.

Q: A Philippine coast guard vessel has recently been anchoring in the lagoon of Xianbin Jiao. Could the foreign ministry confirm it? Any comment on that?
A: Xianbin Jiao is part of China’s Nansha Qundao. The Philippine vessel entered the lagoon of the Xianbin Jiao without permission and has been there for a long time, which seriously infringes on China’s sovereignty, violates the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), and threatens the peace and stability in the South China Sea. China has protested to the Philippines through diplomatic channels and asked the Philippines to stop its infringement activities and withdraw the vessel at once. China is closely monitoring the developments and will take resolute measures to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests and uphold the sanctity of the DOC.

Nothing from pinoy media and social media, I'm betting it was much more than water cannons. China doesn't issue mass media notifications in the middle of the night for just water cannons :)

According to AIS data, Chinese SCS search and rescue vessel 116 is already on the scene.

China Coast Guard spokesman Gan Yu said that on August 19, Philippine coast guard ships No. 4410 and 4411 illegally intruded into the waters adjacent to Xianbin Reef in China's Nansha Islands without the permission of the Chinese government. The Chinese Coast Guard took control of the Philippine ships in accordance with the law. measure. At 03:24, the Philippine ship No. 4410 ignored China's repeated solemn warnings and deliberately collided with the Chinese ship No. 21551, which was normally enforcing rights and law enforcement, in an unprofessional and dangerous manner, causing a collision. The responsibility lies entirely with the Philippines. We are telling the Philippines to immediately stop infringement and provocation, otherwise the Philippines will bear all consequences. China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands, including Xianbin Reef, and its adjacent waters. The China Coast Guard will continue to carry out rights protection and law enforcement activities in waters under China's jurisdiction in accordance with the law and resolutely safeguard national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.

Seems like there are potential casualties. Ship ramming in the middle of the night is definitely escalatory behaviour from the pinoys.

These two ships "collided"
