Now we know why it was such a big deal. CCG didn't notice or react properly for a year. The resupply missions were not contested until 2023.

The Philippines has carried out substantial reinforcements on a grounded World War II-era ship in the contested South China Sea, enough to make the outpost at the center of tensions with Beijing last at least another decade, according to four people familiar with the matter.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s government ramped up efforts to maintain the military outpost on Second Thomas Shoal in the Spratly Islands after taking office in 2022, two of the people said. The BRP Sierra Madre was first deposited on the reef in 1999 in a move meant to push back on Beijing’s expansive claims in the region. In 2021, the rusty and decrepit Sierra Madre was thought to only have a remaining lifespan of three to five years, one of the people said. While some efforts had previously been made to fortify the ship, Marcos’ government accelerated that work, two of the people said.

And maybe the person in charge of the Southern Theatre Command was replaced for this very exact reason. After all, the man was put in charge of his then command back in 2022 the same year that the PH started doing their greyzone operations. Quite frankly, PLAN should be f..ng embarrassed for letting the almost non-existent credible PH Navy/Coastguard the time and ability to build up their dilapidated rusted ship right under the nose and supposed watchful eyes of the PLAN.

She may married a Hua Qiao (surname UY), so she is enlighten. If you take her background (education, work and status) you automatically assume she is PRO AMERICAN, that is in a nutshell what the silent majority is composed of. Those noises you hear from MSM and social media are mostly paid actor or being swayed by a MOB.

So why there is NO protest against the US? well first the so called LEFT had been bought by the establishment and second the way the economy is structured that favored the oligarchy elite, you have to conform to survive and prosper.

Both the Pinoys and Vietnamese have been agitating the Chinese with their joint drills together in the SCS recently.

China responded today with drills near huangyan island.

Uncrewed Chinese military aircraft tracked close to Vietnam coast, monitor group says

HANOI, Aug 5 (Reuters) - An uncrewed Chinese military aircraft flew with its tracker switched on close to Vietnam's coast last week, a South China Sea research body told Reuters, the first time in the group's five years of monitoring that Beijing has made such operations visible.
Friday's flight by the WZ-10 aircraft originated on Hainan island and returned there after following a path roughly 100 km (62 miles) from Vietnam's coastline to the southern city of Nha Trang, according to a map of its trajectory seen by Reuters and shared by Van Pham, general manager of the South China Sea Chronicle Initiative, who used publicly available tracking data.

My question remains: What will be the end game for Philippines?
Forget about the rest, they are insignificant players.
In recent days even Canada, Australia have send their emissaries to Beijing.
ASEAN are practically ostracizing BBM jr. nowadays.
Looks like the Duterte effect have worn off and even bananas are not selling.

In the short term, maintain access to resources in the disputed areas.

in the medium-long term, maintain a military presence so it has a seat at the table in any future reshaping, either in the form of a formal CoC, or in a post-WW3 Asia.

It’s always helpful to have a bargaining chip. If the US wins, chances are the Philippines will be given its claims in the SCS. If China looks like it’s going to win, they can negotiate neutrality in return for some of their claims.

Their biggest risk is backing the US to the hilt and getting punished for it. But they’re not so far down that road that they can’t back out.
