The above lenghthy discussion on going soft and appeasement reminds me of the British prime minister Neville Chamberlain who was in office from 1937 to 1940.

"He is best known for his foreign policy of appeasement, and in particular for his signing of the Munich Agreement on 30 September 1938, ceding the German-speaking Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany led by Adolf Hitler."

Alternative view: Chamberlain's 'peace' deal provided vital time for Britain to re-arm and prepare.

They left saying "Thanks friends"???? Did they all go out for some Chinese food then go home to watch a Chinese drama, download WeChat and use search nearby to try to make Chinese friends?? "Pengyou, pengyou! I want learn Chinese culture and make more Chinese pengyou (I have 6 already and they great guys, work for coast guard)! We hang out and you teach? Pengyou?"
cringe-no.gif

Shit, next time the CCG goes up to ram a Filipino ship, and hear, "Pengyou!! We're back; we have gift! We can come aboard??" Now they're gonna have footage of a Chinese CGC running away from a Filipino dinghy. That'll give them something to boast about to the media.
The tea was great!

Speaking of vendettas with Japan, I'm from Nanjing and I know it's not human to attack and kill someone submitting to you. As they are your enemy fighting against you, you think of all the things you will do to them when you have your hands around their necks but when it happens, and they beg, you look at their faces and the faces of their children and they look just like us. Your grip will release.
I mean, I would not shoot a dog begging to join me. I would definitely work that dog harder to make up being naughty. If Japan capitulate they would be expected to on the forefront in a shooting war with US. Honestly a good thing both Japan and China. Maybe Japan can finally grow out of western bootlicking if it assist beating Americans for once. It pains me to say this, but I would have no choice but to forgive Japanese if they go out of character and change their ways.

Seems too good to be true for Japan to switch that early. What most likely ends up happening would be joining US in a shooting war against China, even if clearly on the losing side. In that case I think punishments would be justified.

No, Japan's gonna switch after the US goes down. If we get to the point where Japan switches without the US losing an actual war, the power dynamic between China and the US would have be so lop-sidded in China's favor the US would be suicidal to fight.

In that case it depends. If they remained neutral, they can expect minor concessions and call it a day. Something like naval base access, return of artifacts, and change of historical revisionism will suffice. Far from "strangling people in a chokehold" I would say.

If they actually got involved in a shooting war, then standard punishments to aggressor are justified, don't you agree?

Of course, if they fought for the US, we beat shit out of them, make Hiroshima and Nagasaki look like 2 kids with Down Syndrome playing in a sandbox. But even then, after they surrender and fall into China's orbit like they did America's after WWII, we're not gonna wanna keep beating on them just for historic reasons.
