few years ago, report that pakistan attempted to purchased J-11B to counter indian AF SU-30,the proposal was rejected.
never heard chinese ever offering J-11 as an export item. those rumors are mostly voiced loudly by fanboy bloggers or are trying to talk smack about China

I think the story is a bit different. Pakistan was offered Ukrain Flankers. It would be a lot of maintenance and spare part problems... Besides that it is wiser to wait for Chinese alternatives or JF17 upgrades then have numerous Flankers parked on the tarmac cause you have no parts.

Had PAF gone for ukrainian flankers, they could potentially have been supplied with parts or even upgraded by China, although that might have pissed off the Russians, and China wanted to sell its own planes so it would have been foolish for them to agree.

But if PAF did buy it, there is a chance that China could have supplied parts using unofficial channels so they could plausably deny any involvment and the PAF could have claimed that they made the parts themselves.

If PAF desperately wanted flankers, it was certainly a viable option. But they probably didn't want them all that much on account of how old those flankers were. There can't have been that many hours left in the airframe, and you would need some serious work done to upgrade them to have any chance against the MKI. Definately nit worth it.

If PAF just wanted aggressor training, they could have flown against Chinese MKKs and/or J11s.

The PAF might not be able to get F16s into China without risk of America finding out, but if they are flying JF17s, who's to tell who is in the cockpit if the participants keep quiet?

I see a lot of potential in such exchanges since the PAF gets first hand experience fighting flankers, and the PLAAF gets to fly against NATO standard pilots to expend their knowledge and keep up to date with current western tactics and doctorines. Just don't expect to read about it if everyone involved is doing their job properly.

the scariest part of this article is the line at the bottom..

'facebook' Like 1,586 people like this.

That is unavoidable when you have articles like this constantly in the mainstream news media, both in internet and TV. How many people know of SDF?

China just went all the way to Turkey with their Flankers... Pakistan is not the only option.

PAF and PLAAF have close relationship. We do not know everything and we are happy about that.

PAF wanted the best option back then. But it was not suited for PAF so they went for other options. More I do not know. But it was on the table.

With all due respect to the turks, i just don't see China trusting Turkey nearly as much as pakistan any time soon.

With Turkey, its good diplomacy, and a valuable learning experience, but i would have been suprised if they were willing to truely put their pilots and planes to the test.

I would have expected pretty restrictive RoEs to make sure America cannot gleam too much insight when they debrief the Turks afterwards.

With Pakistan, thats less of a worry, and the PLAAF can afford to be more open and truly put themselves to the test to expose weaknesses in their current training and doctorine with little risk that those lessons will end up in American red flag training aids.

If many Pakistani (test)pilots/engineers worked in China to test fly/set parameters of J7, JF17 and probably FC20 then we do not have to expect that there is no more then that. ;)

I do not think that Pakistan or China is shouting form the rooftops if something happens. Just look how difficult it is to see even the oldest Pakistani fighterjets armed with weapons... And we know how long it took to get J10 in the open...

Pics of the J-11BS, oddly with one WS-10 and one AL-31 it seems:

if we see the link above, these set photos are not thing new, but some one taken these photos were not easy while the J-11BS was flighting.
so, I say: good photos!
I think both engines are WS-10, maybe just the angle of vision reason.
