j11bs as a fighter bomber.
mention IRST in the middle..in service

Dmitry Vasilyev, an arms export analyst with the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, a think tank here, said that Moscow's decision to offer Su-35s to China is prompted by advances in developing PAK-FA (T-50), a fifth-generation fighter on which Russia's Sukhoi works jointly with India.

He said that a price tag for Su-35 would not be lower than $50 million apiece.

=====================

IMO if they're selling the Su-35BM with AL-41F1A (117S) engine and Irbis-E radar, it'd be a worthy addition to PLAAF/PLANAF.

Just a fantasy armchair air marshall dream: I wonder how the Su-35BM with Irbis-E radar + R-37M AAM would perform. ;p

I'm afraid the performance would not necessarily be better than J10B+AESA+PL12(with the new active seeker). More importantly, I seriously doubt Su-35BM will be around 50m price range, just look at what they charged for Su-30MKI etc., I would say 75m a piece is more likely the lower limit for exported Su-35BM.

I actually dont think plaaf would have a problem with putting a small order for this a long as price is reasonable, but I dont think russia will be willing to do that.

Each country's intention is vastly different. I know it's oversimplification but Russia wants cold hard cash. China wants to continue "studying" Russia's fighters with as little investment as possible although it has the cash. Even though they are contradictory agendas perhaps some sort of middle ground can be achieved in which to satisfy both country's needs.

There was a time after the collapse of the Soviet Union and Russian economy that Russia was willing to sell anything to anyone for cheap. They had too much hardware and needed money badly. But with the resurgence of the Russian economy and self-confidence in 1999 by Vladimir Putin, the Second Chechen War, and high oil prices, Russia has been more picky in who is sells arms to.

I remember when the U.S. pressured Russia to scupper a deal to sell Tu-22M Backfire bombers to China in the early 2000s. For years Russia has been dragging their feet on selling S-300s to Iran and finally President Medvedev issued an executive order forbidding Russia from selling that missile to Iran. American pressure must have been extremely strong for Russia to turn down that substantial cash. Who knows what Russia got in return. But they lost cash and influence in the Middle East. They willingly chose to chill their relationship with Iran. Maybe they are just arrogant and think Russia does not need friends, or the U.S. gave them something really good. I can imagine if the U.S. unofficially agreed to recognize Russian preeminence in Belarus and the Caucus region that might sway Russian nationalists. But I'm only speculating.

But oil prices have come down and the Russian economy is not as well off as it was two years ago. As short as 10 years ago, China was coming to Russia to ask for arms. Now Russia is coming to China to look for a market for its weapons. China can now leverage its potential arms market for technology transfer like it did with high-speed rail and the Su-27.

Russia got, amongst other things, US to scrap missile shield in Poland and Czech Republic...which was much more important to Moscow than any money.

Up Graded Su-27's?
...

No, the first one shows several new-built J-11B (with the black radome) ... and the second one below - not 100% sure but in mind of the "Russian" wing-tip pylon - shows Russian built Su-27SK or early J-11 as the first bird ... the others with the black radome are J-11B.

Does this mean the 29. Division is getting the "B" !???

the second picture, that one moves on the runway carries PL-12, but it is not J-11B because it not with black radome, I think many J-11A already have up graded.
