...China's military projects offer a good example. China continues to import military technology, while it has made little progress in developing its own. As a result, China is currently in talks with Russia to purchase AL-31F aircraft engines. The engine is to be installed in Chinese J-11 fighter planes, a copy of the Russian Su-27 Flanker jet, and in the J-10 fighter, designed with Russian assistance on the basis of Israel's Lavi project of the 1980s.

The Chinese analogue of the AL-31F engine, the WS-10, has so far been unable to generate the required amount of power, despite years of hard work by Chinese engineers.

the new bacth of AL-31Fs will not be used for J-11s but for Su-27s and Su-30s in service ,since AL-31F has only a total life-span of 1500H and now they are getting close to the end of life span.

FWS-10 and AL-31F are completely different, especially their size, configuration and cycle parameters.thus the former can not fit into the original Su-27/30's fuselage.

FWS-10 rotor stages: 3 fan +9 HPC+1 HPT+2 LPT.
3-stage fan has a mass airflow of 120kg/s and inlet is more than 950mm in diameter.

AL-31F : 4 fan +9 HPC+1 HPT+1 LPT
OPR:~23
BPR:0.571
TET:1665K
AL31F has a 4-stage fan with a pressure ratio of 3.54 and an airflow of 112kg/s at SLS. its inlet diameter is 905mm.

Maya, forgive me if i am wrong but first you say this:

the 606 institute incorporated many features of D30-F6 and AL-31F into the design of domestic fully adjustable nozzle, such as active/independent control of the subsonic flow petals by means of 18 hydraulic cylinders and aerodynamic control of the supersonic flow petals

And then this:

FWS-10 and AL-31F are completely different, especially their size, configuration and cycle parameters.thus the former can not fit into the original Su-27/30's fuselage.

I dont think that those two statements necessairly contradict each other, but they add confusion about the relationship betwen ws-10 and al-31f, at least for me.

The engines are completely different but have similar nozzles.

D30F6's ejector nozzle provided major contributions to the FWS-10's.

similar to AL-31F ,installation of FWS-10/10A requires a set of flexible petals to ensure the smooth transition from nacelle to nozzle.

Did China or esp. Institute 606 ever have access to the D-30F-6 ??? ... or is it "simply" the same solution ?

j11bs as a fighter bomber.
mention IRST in the middle..in service

I actually dont think plaaf would have a problem with putting a small order for this a long as price is reasonable, but I dont think russia will be willing to do that.

Dmitry Vasilyev, an arms export analyst with the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, a think tank here, said that Moscow's decision to offer Su-35s to China is prompted by advances in developing PAK-FA (T-50), a fifth-generation fighter on which Russia's Sukhoi works jointly with India.

He said that a price tag for Su-35 would not be lower than $50 million apiece.

=====================

IMO if they're selling the Su-35BM with AL-41F1A (117S) engine and Irbis-E radar, it'd be a worthy addition to PLAAF/PLANAF.

Just a fantasy armchair air marshall dream: I wonder how the Su-35BM with Irbis-E radar + R-37M AAM would perform. ;p
