the second picture, that one moves on the runway carries PL-12, but it is not J-11B because it not with black radome, I think many J-11A already have up graded.

No ... it surely has a black radome ! Look and compare to the radome of the J-11 with the painted cut-out !

Its material science and quality control that seems to be the main bottle necks of Chinese engine design. Unless they also get full ToT, getting a few AL41s to look at won't change things much.

What more, the Chinese seem to be aiming for western standards with their engines if you look at the lifespan and reliability figures of the WS10A v AL31.

That means even if there are major technical breakthroughs on the AL41 that could benefit Chinese engine design AND they got full ToT, materials and QC may still be the bottle necks if the engines are not giving the lifespan and reliability levels the PLAAF demands.

Supercruising engine.
It may provide a sample to speed up WS-15 develepement.

Not sure how you define a "supercruise engine".

117S used on Su-35BM would provide 14kn class thrust with thrust-to-weight ratio around 8, which is considerably lower than WS15 (perhaps on par with future WS10 series which is being developed separately).

In the first pic, the first three plane (from left to right) are J-11As with grey radome and a half white ellipse pattern. The other three with black radome are J-11Bs

China military article on the WSJ. Do you think that is a reliable article or is it another china bashing article? I wonder why the author didnt mention the J-10, j-xx or y-20, focusing instead on china "clones" and the "threat" they represent...

Oh that article's been making rounds in the past week or so in various forms...

WSJ isn't a full military news site, so this article's obviously meant to entertain casual western readers with preliminary, basic, misguided knowledge (it gives many incorrect facts and implications -- the sherdils fly the K-8, which was never a russian jet... nor is it a fighter aircraft). It's not that big of a wonder to be honest that (just another) western media outlet would give this kind of view and not dig further.

I am interested in what the western media will say when the 4th gen fighter finally comes out though... should be quite entertaining.
