Though not a bad idea in having real world experience on such a power plant under less demanding situations.

Eh, QC-280 is a mature gas turbine by now anyway.

I doubt the risk of their propulsion in 055 is so great that they'd need to trial it on a coast guard cutter with different performance requirements and cost constraints. If they did, they could simply set up a land simulation instead.

Anyone know if this class will be electric propulsion or conventional diesel config?

They should build more icebreakers too.

like this? have to wait and see. the 3000t class are the only ones equipped with azipods right now. and since China only build the smaller azipod c right now, azipod propelled big ships are unlikely.

True but putting 4 QC-280s together to propel a 10,000+ ton vessel in real world can still be strong validation for what is proposed to be serial production of 055s. Alternatively, what if there are newer QC-280s that need validation?

However, speculation aside, it will probably be something mundane such as diesel engines for efficiency.

It's unbelievable how fast this ship has taken shape just a few months ago it was a like a rumour that China will build a large cutter and now the thing is right infront of us

I wonder how thee second unit is coming along

This speed of production must have a large effect on the cost of building.

The Chinese are smart and hardworking people. I take great pride in being a Chinese.

Once we get the know-how, with the kind of work ethic we have and abundant labour, anything and everything can be built fast.
