talks about WuChang shipyard building Haijian-50. This is the 3000 ton class Haijian cutter (the only one of this class in the second phase of 7 cutters for CMS). It is also basically based on Haijian-83 from the first phase with certain parts upgraded. It's China's most advanced, most technologically advanced cutter. This cutter has now entered the dry dock for assembly. 32 out of 48 modules have finished assembly and the remaining 16 modules are being built. Everything is proceeding successfully and will hopefully be delivered in the middle of 2011.

That particularly vessel has received quite a bit of coverage in Southeast Asian media in recent days. Not surprising since it will be deployed to South China Sea, where several ASEAN states have competing territorial claims with China.

a couple of new cutters joining the maritime police force (aka the Chinese coast guard). They are 1001 and 31001. The latter one is a type 618B IV class.

so what is the difference between the old 618B II class and now the 618 B IV?

And how big is 1001? Looks bigger!

don't know the answer to the first one since Haijing isn't the one I follow. As for 1001, this is a really weird one, it joined service a few years ago. And I'm not sure if this one is the same cutter dragged back into the docks for a major change and then relaunched. Or it could be a new cutter and the older 1001 gets re-numbered. My guess is probably the second one because they held a major ceremony in its launching. We don't really see the upper hull section of the ship, so it's hard to judge further than that.

More Haijian photo from HP shipyard are attached. We know that Haijian-75 was launched recently. We can see Haijian-23 still sitting there getting fitted out and another Haijian ship in the docks and is probably less than a month away from getting launched. They have one more cutter on order after this one.

edit: never mind, those are the old photos of 1001 when it first got launched!
