(Reuters) - China has flight-tested a hypersonic missile delivery vehicle in a move that was scientific in nature and not targeted at any country, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.

A Chinese military build-up has raised regional jitters. Many countries in Asia have welcomed a stated U.S. intention to shift more attention and military assets back to the region. They are beefing up military spending and ties with Washington.

"Our planned scientific research tests conducted in our territory are normal," the Beijing Defense Ministry said in a faxed response to Reuters. "These tests are not targeted at any country and at any specific goals."

A hypersonic glider isn't a AShBM, it'd be something else.

If the Chinese were able to keep communication with the glider within the required timeframe, than that's a rousing success by anyone's standards.

Never the less, one can't deny the success of the Chinese missile and space program. This means they got the funding and the people to continue the success of their research and develop for decades to come. It does not matter how small the program had started but rather the continuation growth of the program (now this can be applied to anything: science, education, sports, medicine, electronics, industrial, energy, etc.) that a proficient plat form to work on.

Huh?...shouldn't this kind of research material be top secret? I never see other countries like the U.S. and Russia publishing this kind of material. It's kind of ironic that they're saying China's military is secretive.

Most likely basic explanations in the science that both the US and Russia had already knew about. The devils is in the critical core technology details that are kept secret.

This is in response to United States unilateral withdrawal from the Anti-Ballastic Missile Treaty in 2001, which is clearly aimed at the small nuclear stockpiles of China, and U.S. desire at complete fortification of U.S. mainland from Chinese ICBM missile penetration.

China's response is excellent, not only MIRV and MaRV technology, but also HYPERSONIC penetrators... O.O GO CHINA!
