A hypersonic glider isn't a AShBM, it'd be something else.

If the Chinese were able to keep communication with the glider within the required timeframe, than that's a rousing success by anyone's standards.

applicable to any bm where u want to guide its path to evade the other side's defense. useful tech for space plane as well.

China confirms hypersonic missile carrier test

(Reuters) - China has flight-tested a hypersonic missile delivery vehicle in a move that was scientific in nature and not targeted at any country, the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

A Chinese military build-up has raised regional jitters. Many countries in Asia have welcomed a stated U.S. intention to shift more attention and military assets back to the region. They are beefing up military spending and ties with Washington.

"Our planned scientific research tests conducted in our territory are normal," the Beijing Defense Ministry said in a faxed response to Reuters. "These tests are not targeted at any country and at any specific goals."

The statement confirmed a report by the online Washington Free Beacon newspaper that the hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) was detected flying at 10 times the speed of sound over China last week. A spokesman for the U.S. Defense Department told the newspaper it was aware of the test.

The Free Beacon said the test made China the second country after the United States to have successfully tested a hypersonic delivery vehicle able to carry nuclear warheads at a speed above Mach 10 - or 12,359 kilometers per hour.

Three decades of double-digit, annual increases in military spending have accelerated Beijing's ambitious build-up and allowed Chinese Defense factories to boost the quality and performance of home-grown weapons and military hardware.

This is really something. America's pivot may create another cold war. Such an unnecessary move.

Nah, not likely a Cold War in a sense, but more like a "Cold Peace" if it gets that bad. The two side may be military rivals but they sure can't live without each other economically.

Boeing's X-51 was scramjet-powered but the Chinese glide vehicle is just a glider?

Different flight regimes entirely.

This chinese test is more reminiscent of HTV-2 than X-51. X-51s top speed is Mach 5, the glider was caught travelling at double that.

I hope so. Some congressmen and this pivot thing sound pretty bad though.
