How is the development work for the JL-3 SLBM been going on?

Seems like JL-3 would be fitted abroad the upcoming Type 096 SSBNs.

Once the JL-3 is ready for service, will the Type 094 SSBNs receive them too? Or their size limits would only permit the usage of JL-2?

Considering that JL-3 is a MASSIVE upgrade of China's sea-based nuclear triad.

I think 094 will get JL-2A with I heard up to 10,000 kms range , perhaps not JL-3.

The mockup is obviously smaller in size, but the warhead might have been an airburst one. Makes sense, as analysts have long speculated that airburst would be better for the initial strike than penetration warheads. And if this was something of an EFP... Imagine an EFP of 1.7 tons...

It was quite a while ago when the mockup first appeared, but I'm VERY sure that even back then we were basically able to confirm that the mockup IS smaller than the real things (US carriers) and it was by quite a lot even then (more than a 100 meters shorter atleast?).

My understanding of the underlining principle of any form of PLA propaganda that is supposedly aimed at "showing muscle" is that these should always ONLY intimidate professionals in the US, and NEVER intimidate common people in the US.

The logic is simple: decision makers who are professionals (or advised by professionals) will know that consequences and cost of any hostile actions towards China, but the US people should NOT be aware of these. Because if the people in the US are aware of those, it would be much easier for the politicians in the US to vastly escalate arms race and have support from the US people who is willing to give up more of the money to feed into their MIC.

That's my understanding.

The mockup is on rails and not destroyed. Mockup is reused and as someone said and we've all speculated when the rail photos came out last year, that they would not be getting those warheads to actually destroy such an expensive set up.

They could just offset it and use some drones to perform visual identification of how well the warhead is delivered.

i think the whole point of the mock up is simply to test the guidance system of the warhead.

i think the whole point of the mock up is simply to test the guidance system of the warhead.

The mockup and rails was photographed last year when it was in construction.

We concluded it is considerably smaller than an actual carrier (which makes it easier and cheaper to build a mock-up for). We also concluded that it is set up with electronic warfare modules to try and spoof the missile and simulate a carriers electronic jamming.

The mockup is an expensive piece of kit and because of that, we speculated it wasn't designed to be directly hit but missile is aimed at a designated point away from mockup. Post test review would be able to indicate how accurate it is anyway without having to actually destroy an expensive and time consuming scaled mockup that is riding on rails and set up with all that electronic equipment.

That's how the mockup will be used anyway. The video itself may or may not show an actual test.

It's either subscale or they missed and the RV is nearer the camera (much nearer)
Well this is clearly a airburst thermobaric warhead (most effective against armour columns or stationary soft targets) as opposed to one penetrating warships. So maybe it is supposed to hit a target near the fake carrier as opposed to hitting the fake carrier itself.
