Well, if it is the case Minuteman III (the only land base ICBM in the US) is obsolete too and also most Russian ICBMs. Currently only 3 countries have operational ICBM, USA, Russia and China

Like Deng once said, doesn't really matter whether the cat is white or black, as long as it catches mice ;) ... even better if one is cheaper (less fancy) than the other but can catch mice as good
Minuteman III is obsolete, horrible range and payload capacity, that’s why there’s a thing called GBSD
And quoting Deng doesn’t make your point solid, performance matters a whole lot for ICBMs, that’s why they were and still are being invested heavily, if your claim make any sense, we would see R-7/Atlas now .

Minuteman III has 11.000-13.000km range. I wouldn't call that horrible range as most ICBM's are in the same range category.

Minuteman III has also gone trough multiple upgrades so those missiles aren't 1970's vintage.

What about W-76-2? I don’t know what outdated warhead it was going to replace , and to be aggressive , you don’t have to manufacture more warheads,in fact, both US&Russia have much more warheads than their vehicles could carry, and here comes the GBSD&columbia class SSBN
The W76-2 would modify existing warheads. (If they haven't cancelled it already.)

The NEWEST one rolled off the line in 1977. They've updated the guidance system, and some of the warheads. The propulsion "upgrade" was completed 13 years ago and actually REDUCED the ISP/range. (Gotta be green ya know.) The thing was only meant to be in service for about ten years. The launch centers still use 8" floppy drives.

In a perfect world they'd have bought the full compliment of 200 Peacekeepers and then began deployment of Midgetman.

They replaced the 8" floppy drives with something more modern some years ago.
But yeah the Midgetman should never have been cancelled.

Since the Minotaur IV and V family is derived from the LGM-118 Peacekeeper and is still in production, I'd expect the GBSD to be a development from that for reasons of expediency.

It's not in production. Minotaur uses repurposed Peacekeeper motors. GBSD is shaping up to be even less capable in range/throw weight than Minuteman 3.
