This sort of thing has been happening for a while. Apparently DF-11 and DF-15 are due to be retired soon so PLARF have been setting them off like firework whenever they get an excuse. Most commonly just before a new batch of recruits graduate from their training they get an opportunity like this to launch a real missile.

Let's hope half of those are used for interception practice. Would be a great opportunity for some more real life verification of training.

Why would a silo for an 80 ton missile be larger than a silo for a 180 ton missile?

In case of future upgrades so that bigger missiles developed specifically for silos can be loaded without having to build new silos.

I vaguely remember that last time the PLARF launched a DF-4 in a ABM test a few years back. Wouldn't be surprised if the PLA is doing that with DF-11s

Eveleth noted in one of his tweets that there is some evidence that they are also building larger silos for DF-5 size missiles.

Maybe new liquid-fueled heavy ICBM like Sarmat?

As I said somewhere earlier in this thread, it is possible that a new hypergolic engine is being developed for a new generation of ICBMs

Just listened to that. There was not a single question of validity of the silo field claim. I thought the issue of whether those are silos or something else (like wind turbines) was still up in the air.
