Chengdu next gen combat aircraft (?J-36) thread

I see people trying to come up with new terms for what this radically new generally machine J-36 represents. I call it a Fightercruiser, inspired by the dutch jachtkruisers of WW2. Big, long range, fast dasher and especially supercruiser, latest weapons, electronics, materials, DEW, MW defences/offences, imo it's the new standard setter in air combat. This is certainly the most exciting aviation moment since Su-57 unveiling in 2010, and far surpasses that previous moment i might say, this coming from an avid russian aviation fan.
From that PoV, Germans called the Heavy fighter/Jachtkruiser types like Me 410, Mosquito and Hornet, "Zerstörer", literally destroyer.

I decided to rewatch Perun's 2 yrs old Youtube video on 6th gen fighters. His speculations on USAF version of NGAD manned fighter:
1. Tailless & perhaps triangle shaped
2. Very large, approaching the size of a traditional bomber
3. Very powerful power generation capabilities
4. At minimal twin-seated, perhaps 3 or even 4 seated.

Could it be that J36 doesn't just have side-by-side twin seats but also a back row of one or two additional seats? I mean if you want to have four seats you'd want to have two seats on the front row. And that seems to be a major potential motivation for having a side-by-side arrangement.

BTW Perun also thought DoD was right to have 2 separate manned 6th gen fighter programs. He suggested that DoD could further improve on it by having a dedicated light carrier for drones.

To be honest relistening to that old episode in light of recent developments kinda improved my perception of Perun. He must have known his stuff if his predictions and suggestions for the US turned out to be pretty much spot on ...for the PLA.

Wow ... SPF is SecretProjectsForum?

If legit, then this is the so far clearest image showing the J-36 from behind.

Even more it clearly shown all three exhausts are the same which contradicts all the speculations about a third, completely different RAMJET engine in the middle
already know all three are WS10/15 now, talking about target/ideal setup being VCE ramjet hybrid.

Future fighters at the platform level generally require long range and long duration, high speed, omnidirectional wide band stealth, carry air to air/air to surface weapons, and provide pilots with fully understood battlefield situational awareness and decision-making causality; at the system level, they need to establish a flexible and redundant node network with near-zero latency to form a unified and fused situational awareness, create multiple kill paths, and transfer targeting information in real time across the mission area.

Yang Wei, J-20 Chief Designer, "Some Discussions on the Development of Future Fighter Aircraft"

The claim that if one or some J-36 is destroyed, the entire fleet will collapse is actually completely contrary to the original design intent

I suggest listening from 59:00 mark if anyone wants a short version.

CHAD is precise.

I have a question.

Given that this aircraft's serial number is 36011, does it imply that it is a prototype rather than a technology demonstrator?
We are aware that J20's first flight is number 2001, classified as an engineering verification aircraft, whereas the prototype numbered 2011 made its first flight in 2014. Could it be that the technical milestone of 36011 aligns with the development stage of 2011 in 2014? Additionally, was the scaled-down tailless aircraft captured by satellite in 2021 perhaps the engineering verification aircraft for 36011?
The J20 pre-production model made its first flight in January 2016 and was subsequently delivered to the military in 2017. Based on this timeline, is there any justification for us to believe that the sixth-generation fighter will enter pre-production trials or even be deployed to the military around 2027?

36011 even has camouflage paint, similar to the NO.2011 in 2014.

I would recommend his video. Very good rundown on the basics on 6th gen fighters and the current NGAD and European 6th gen programs. And yeah, his view on NGAD is basically 1:1 for what the J36 looks like.
