Disappointed with SAC. They always fall behind CAC. You can tell that from FC-31/J-35 vs J-20.
Perhaps due to the high risk aerodynamic layout. Better safe than sorry.
Look at her just casually cruising over UESTC like it's no big deal

Fall behind? Shenyang's the one with the J-XDS in the skies first, ahead of Chengdu's J-36.
Also, the FC-31/J-35 topic is way more than just "muh J-20 in the skies 10 years before the J-35, so Shenyang baaaaaaddddd!!!" - There's so much more going on that are mostly behind the screens.
As a matter of fact, I would strongly recommend against viewing things in such an oversimplified manner.

I would reasonably expect that the J-XDS already had its 2nd flight by now, at the very least.

So with regards to that "3 engines afterburner" pic/video, (someone who works in China's aerospace related MIC) brought up a point, that from what he heard, it's not possible to take a video of J-36 from that specific angle without seriously risking jail time.
