The deal could be very ugly. Now, Russians want to use Su33UB and Su33Mk to replace old Su33s. They may want to sell those retired Su33s at the price of Su33UB and Su33MKs then Russian navy will get new planes for free.
==The fuel consumption rate of the Su-33 is not a quantum leap from other fighters, if there isn't enough fuel to support Su-33, then there isn't enough fuel to support any other planes. The Su-33's weakness, which reflects china's weakness in general, is fuel consumption. Commie china cannot maintain the sortie ratio of hundreds of gas-guzzling high-performance jets in actual combat. Fuel supplies will be cut short/off so the chinese military and civilian sector will collapse.
China have acquired 2 Su33 prototype model from Ukraine(or was it khazakstan) for some time now, and reported to have fitted one of those with WS10 engine for testing. Why would the PLAN want a used old type of Su33 from Russia again?
An aircraft that is worth $50 million a piece. More than Twice of the Indian MKI, which itself is a formidable aircraft. 2 Su-33's are due to be delivered during 2007-2008. Not a long time from now. These aircraft are stated to be far superior than the current flanker-d's that the Russians are operating.
So, what would you expect to be on them? There stats? and would they have an edge over the F/A-18 superhornets and other aircraft like such in the region? And how will it effect the balance of power?
