For USN CVN 3 different types of maintenance :

Refueling Complex Overhaul,RCOH about every 25 years take 3 years and a half. Mainly core nuclear replacement but many upgrades also.
Only Civil Shipyard to Newport News do it. In more have build all US CVN.
Before for CV named COH.

Drydocking Planned Incremental Availability, DPIA between two RCOH about every 12 years take 14 month.
Exist also ESRA, Extended Service Repair Ability more long.

Planned Incremental Availability, PIA take 6 months.
CVN is is not dry-docked.

CVN normal Activity cycle :
return deployment
Holidays, servicing : 6 months
Training apart for crew and CAW : 6 months
Training together with a stage to Fallon for the CAW : 6 months
CSG Strike Group trainig all ships and CAW : 3 months
Deployment : theoretical 6/8 months in fact up to 10 actually until Ford will in service.

I have found many infos in " Navires et Histoire Hors Série 19 " the 3rd magazine ( 120 pages ) on all USN CVN, CV, CVL, and CVE.
From Langley to Ford.

True but then the new USN strategy is going to change and standardise the above to a fixed formation of deployments and turn around times, what we have here is the old way of doing things one carrier comes in one goes out etc no fixed timings

Ships nunbers are low and operation tempo is high so this requires to streamline the deployments to fixed protocol

USN will introduce 9 month deployments and then cut the turnaround times down meaning each asset will be stretched to go further for longer depending on demands

For example in 2012 USS Eisenhower carrier strike package deployed for 9 months which was the first time in a decade that a USN carrier deployed for that long the previous record was set by USS Abrahm Lincoln back in 2002 during the work up to Iraq which was a 10 month deployment which I believe is the longest deployment in 40 years

As a matter of fact back in the days 1970s the USN carrier strike groups would do 9 months routinely when required and then after Cold War cut it to 6-7 months

Royal Navy SSN are also providing 9 month deployments but after such a deployment the submarine is out of action for a good while it also reduces the operational life of the submarines

Then looking into the future this carrier standardisation is going to be translated to all the surface ships also so like the Arleigh Burke Destroyers and the Zumwalt Class it will overall cut the cost and not compromise the capability

Yes asif interesting, i add two things :

- Maintenance for CVN and all ships can be considerably reduced if necessary in a crisis time or more ofc in war time.

The planning for maintenance and Activity cycle is mainly adapted to the budget, in a crisis time the budget is less limited and in war time no limit...

- Regular deployment for US SSN is 6 months, and this is the time of the last deployments, 58 SSN/SSGN and this ships are less busy.

Hmmm...nice. Looks like they are making progress there on the aft end of the hull and main deck.

But still, quite some time ago. Is that June 1st time frame?

At least three months ago.
