I will go out on a limb and predict that we will never see this vessel built. But that is just my opinion.

IMHO, if their naval bureau was going to put that much effort into a design, of that size and complexity...they would lose the ski ramp, have catapults, and a better angled deck.
I have little doubt there will be time for another half dozen designs, if not more, before any steel is cut. And if Ukraine desintegrate they might get their old flattop building yard back. At any rate it doesn't make sense to build one or two flattops and then forget about it for one or two score years. Better not begin with it or plan to make one every four to ten years for the indefinite future. And therefore invest in building and maintaining the infrastructure to do so.

Look at that:

the caption (I found it on the NAVAIR Facebook profile) says "Photo of the day: The X-47B unmanned aircraft conducts its first night time deck handling and taxi tests Aug. 21 aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). The aircraft recently returned to Patuxent River, Md., after eight days of testing at sea. Read the full story at

I would say you are right. In a current situation and restart of Cold War (hopefully not a start of Hot War :D ) Russia would need at least 5-6 aircraft carrier groups to have any chance against NATO . And that would take years, not to mention the cost.

For them, much cheaper and practical solution is to build a fleet of missile carriers (subs, ships and airplanes) to keep NATO forces at healthy distance from Russian shores . And would say they are slowly moving in that direction .

It is questionable wether Russia can actually build a fully blown carrier even the UK got lots of help from US

And France: BAE won the tender, but the UK MOD selected the dual island CV design from Thales which was a french design. They rejected BAE's own design

Yes...and for me, that would be when they started construction.

They need to get all of that infrastructure in place first...perhaps building off of what they must do to build the two additional Vladivosk vessels in Russia.

Yup. That's my thinking that would give them a launch date in the 2030s plenty of time to expand there naval air platform range and establish the necessary industrial back bone in either St. Petersburg or Vladivostok. Who knows maybe the Russians will even dare I say it build and complete more then one!

Russia don't need carriers to project power the Russian army has that job and have always had that job

What does Russian navy has today that can stand up to the West? Nothing really that powerful but that is not the point when it comes to Russia

Russia has land, men and plenty of space which means pretty much no one can engage them openly on a open front

They can loose every single port they have and still win the war, Putin knows what he can do and as such does not care what NATO or US is saying

It's 100% confirmed Russiam T72 is in operation in Ukraine manned by Russian troops, what is anyone going to do about it? Well pretty much nothing

NATO is already giving signals they won't accept Ukraine why? Because that means NATO will have to engage Russia which is something no one wants to do, they remember the lessons of the German 6th army faced

You might push Russia back for a while but they will come back and come back stronger so unless you are going to back your word better to stay quite which is why a military action is ruled and sanctions are being used which I must are having no effect on Putin decision to attack Ukraine

A little off-topic post but keep in mind how much disparity is there on both sides between Russia and NATO countries. In all aspects - economy, technology, military - Russia is an ant compared to NATO countries and if you would count US strategic allies the difference would grow even bigger. NATO has more than enough power to keep Russia at bay and teach them more than a good lesson when the time would come. The big problem with NATO is that it could break up before it would really be needed to act.

They don't have to fear Russia at all when allied - the problem are small cracks inside which could become more serious at times.

Rare view SA-330J Puma based on one Lewis and Clarck during a vertical replenishment on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush.

Seems to belong to a private company hired by the MSC ?

Evergreen has been around a long time. I believe they were absorbed by a company named Erickson..Last yer they signed a new contract with the US DoD.
