by the way has the 2nd 22DDH been laid yet? i sometimes find it easier finding updates on Chinese ships than any of the worlds Navys!!

also how many F35 can a single 22DDH carry? is it 16? that would mean Japan for the first time since WWII will operate aircraft from ships at sea

backed up by 2 small LHDs, which could be used for exclusive ASW using helos Japan will be a big player in the seas, thats 4 flat-tops they are going to be operating

I have a real hard time finding any pics of the 22DDH construction. I imiagine the 1st 22DDH is well along in its construction and each week I look for pics, but cannot find any. We need someone on the gorund in Japan to be posting here on SD.

As to US builds, I have good pics of the

Type 23 FFGs

and MARS Replenishment tankers

for China
ex-Varyag aircraft carrier with J15
Type 052C DDGs
Type 054A FFGs
Type 095 SSN
and Type 903A Replenishment tankers

and to a lesser extent India

Well, let's not forget the US:
Ford Class (FA-18E/F, JSF, EA-18G, E-2D)
Burke Flight III CG
Burke Flight IIA DDG
LA Class Flight III or Virginia SSN

I would add three more (at least for the Pacific):

Australia:
Canbera Flat Tops (JSF)
Holbert DDGs
Their upgraded Perry FFGs
Their new SS perhaps

Japan:
22DDH Flat Top (JSF)
Hyuga ASW Escort
Atago or Kongo AEGIS DDG
and their newer FFG/DDGs
Their new SS Perhaps

Korea:
Dokdo (JSF?)
SeJong (KDX-III)
DDG
KDX-II DDG
Their SS perhaps

Now, in the Atlamtic/Mediteranean

Italy:
Cavour (JSF)
Horizon
newer FFGs

Spain:
Juan Carlos (JSF)
F-100 AEGIS FFGs

and of course, France:
Charles De Gaulle (Rafale)
Horizon
their new FFGs
their SSN

All of those groups will be strong and worthy of consideration. Soon you will have the US, the UK, the PRC, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, India, Japan, Korea, and Australia all having petential carrier groups. That's 11 countries and does not include Brazil or Thailand, making a total of 13 countries with carrier groups. A proliferating naval buildup in carriers world-wide.

I know this makes me sound dumb, but I had no idea that carriers figured so highly in the mix of modern military. It occurs to me that the one thing a carrier can do that no other asset is able to do is project "soft power" or presence into any circustance. With any other weapon system you have to use it in order to project or at least make the other guy think you will use it. With a carrier you can be a "presence", and have the ability to go from soft projection to active in a matter of seconds as you project "hard power". Carriers are also valuable assets for those kind of missions where you need an evac or a hospital etc, my friend Tom was the Flight Surgeon on the Kennedy before she was retired, he loved it and got to fly a coupla missions with the guys in the "hoover", which he had flown as a naval aviator before going to med school.
The old S3b Viking, any way he had a blast, he is now a medical officer for the FAA in Ok City.

I had a type/problem with the crew size, the initial 2000 was left off, it was followed by a comma and 600 meaning the airwing consisted of 600 personnel. I fixed it in my post above. See my

Re: All about the new Indian Aircraft Carriers

I'm sure this has been discussed but I probably missed it. Anyone can kindly brief me on why they needed a secondary tower behind the island for their sensors?
