The Project IX, one of the strategic projects of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), which provides for the development of new inspection aircraft in flight, began today (08/07) an important phase: the system integration. It is at this stage that the Embraer Legacy 500 executive jet will be transformed into the new aircraft-lab FAB.
The purpose of the project development and acquisition of six aircraft to replace the current fleet of the Special Group on Flight Inspection (GEIV). The first, which came today in integration phase, will be delivered in May 2016. Since the last in November 2017.
According to the project manager, Major Luis Fernando Chamber Iron, system integration is the most sensitive and most important phase of development and is expected to last nine months. "This is the first time that the integration of an inspection system in this type of aircraft will be made, not only in Brazil but in the world. Are the latest equipment which, coupled with the Legacy 500 features, will bring safety and comfort to the crew, as well as reliability and accuracy of the data collected, "explains Major Iron.
The GEIV is responsible for measuring, assessing and calibrating aids to air navigation equipment installed at airports around the country. With greater accuracy and reliability in the inspections, the biggest gain is of Brazilian society, which has in its favor crews able to ensure that all air routes, civilian and military, happen even more securely.
The new aircraft-lab, which will replace the current IC-95 Bandeirante and Hawker HS-800, will bring various operating earnings crews. More were installed 14 antennas on the outside of the plane, in addition to the existing ones. It will be incorporated, in addition, a laser camera that will allow the aircraft to more autonomy and independence in relation to the ground crew.
This will be the world's only aircraft with technology "fly by wire" (electronically controlled) to be used for inspection in flight. The role will also be eliminated from the cabin: check list of the pilots will be done through a tablet.
The Commander of GEIV, Lieutenant Colonel Marcelo de Lima Pinheiro explains that with advances in technology, air navigation systems have been altered and, for testing, need some more precise equipment on board aircraft. To make certain inspections, today, the Group has used aircraft belonging to airlines. With the arrival of new aircraft, this need will be met.
"Another important aspect that the Legacy 500 will bring to the GEIV is the optimization of inspection, such as the ability to test more of aid without the need for landing, even in different locations. With the fleet we have today, we can not For example, take off with full fuel tank here from Santos Dumont Airport, as our aircraft need a lot of track. To go to Manaus, first need to stop in Santa Cruz to supply, "explains Lieutenant Colonel Pinheiro.
