For me I dun feel much about Nathan representing US and not China. He clearly isn't pro China and likely dun feel deeply about the country and Chinese culture.

The one that got away for me is Emma radacanu. Similar background with Gu, Chinese mum, speaks fluent Chinese, identifies with Chinese culture, also with model type looks. Big commercial appeal. She won a Slam at early age, her endorsement are big right now but imagine if she represents china, instead of colonial Britain, her endorsement profile will be through the roof with plus hundred of millions of chinese supporting her. She can increase the profile of tennis in China which kinds stagnated after li na retired.
I think the main difference is Emma's dad was present for her entire life, by all accounts loving & supportive. Hence her last name and identifying equally with her dad's background and her mom's.

"...The teen and her dad would hit tennis balls together in the street during the Covid lockdowns...Raducanu has on many occasions spoken about the importance of her father, Ian. Known for his no-nonsense approach and one never afraid to mince his words, he has helped form her career and has hired and fired her coaches." -https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/meet-emma-raducanus-parents-tough-24966190

exactly, his dad is described as a humble medical scientist... yeah no, he's the president of a literal multinational pharmaceutical company. as for why they want to portray him like this? it's because it's part of the mythology that 'anyone can make it' in the US.

that's why they call Bill Gates a "college dropout" and not "son of law firm partner and bank president parents from the richest Seattle suburbs".

that's why they call Mark Zuckerberg a "college dropout" and not "son of NYC doctor-doctor parents who attended the ultra elite Phillips Exeter Academy."
There was an era of upwards mobility but thats long gone, for the average American the dream has been dead for a while. Anyone who actually lives in America knows this, sure you hear of the lucky story every now and then, just like there are still lottery winners. But by and large hoping to win the lottery is not a viable plan. Real wages for bottom 50% of Americans have stagnated since the 90s and going down the tubes fast. Last year real inflation was 15% and this year like 20% or more ....

All the Beijing snow is human-made -- a resource-intensive, 'dangerous' trend as planet warms. Natural snow is becoming less reliable for winter sports, which has led venues to lean more on artificial. But that comes at a cost.

Are they autogenerating articles nowadays?

Nathan Chen winning Gold at the Olympics is his own wonderful achievement. He did it through his own ability. It doesn't matter if he does it for Team USA or Team China. In terms of his loyalty to either USA or China, thats his own decision to make.

Nevertheless. After the Olympics is done. When Nathan Chen is walking down the streets of America. I'm betting that someone would eventually tell him or his family to: "Go back to communist China!". Give another 4 years of that treatment, let's see where Nathan's loyalty stands in the next Winter Olympics.

The alt right are the real traitors to America. The pretty much attempted to stage a coup and undermine the democratic process last January but we never hear their loyalty being questioned.

To the alt right, democracy is but a means to an end, and the end is that of white supremacy and anglo hegemony. On the upswing of America's rise they tolerated the melting pot /diversity because it was perceived as bringing in more benefits to them than the cons... just like for a while the US welcomed China's rise because the cheap labor benefitted America more than the potential threat of a stronger China.... it was only when China decided not to let America harvest it that the relationship turned sour...

Look at what happened when the US couldn't harvest Eileen Gu

Nathan Chen's children and grandchildren (assuming he stays in the USA) will have a much harder time growing up in a destitute America that is rife with threatening anti-Asian hostilities... Chen's parent came to the US for a better quality of life but unfortunately for Nathan his own sons and daughters will be the ones paying the price...

China vs Canada men's ice hockey.

Whew.

Let's try and keep Canada to less than ten goals....

EDIT: Gonna need Prozac to watch this match to the end. Canada is too good at ice hockey, monster on defense, dominant on offense

China is also losing badly to USA in men's curling.

Let's just call it a bad day.

upward mobility was over since the 1970's on average but really got bad in the late 2000's (coinciding with plateau of energy usage per capita, hmmm). Bill, Mark and Nathan are the lottery winners. Well, Bill and Mark won the jackpot I guess. Nathan got a small scratch and win certificate.
