All the Beijing snow is human-made -- a resource-intensive, 'dangerous' trend as planet warms. Natural snow is becoming less reliable for winter sports, which has led venues to lean more on artificial. But that comes at a cost.

Are they autogenerating articles nowadays?

There is a company called Data Skrive that does this for sports

Considering how consistent and repetitive some of the claims are (bad food, at what cost, Xi Jinping ambition, fake snow, Uighurs/Tibet/HK, Obama’s birth certificate Eileen Gu’s citizenship, etc.) it wouldn’t be surprising that the technology can be applied to any article. I’m pretty sure I covered 25% of the content right there…

Bad news is that Wu Dajing didn't get a chance to defend, but the good news is that the watermelon thief got disqualified.

Funny, Nathan Chen has basically inspired a reverse Eileen Gu on this thread… meanwhile Liu Shaoang has quietly won a gold and 2 bronze without inspiring raucous debate. Talk about the influence of geopolitics!

we elected to translate 枭雄 as "villainous hero". I believe this is quite close to Mao Zedong's own assessment of Cao Cao as he would insist people not to call Cao Cao a villain as he's much more complex than that. Incidentally people often describe both Mao and his nemesis Chiang as 枭雄.

枭雄 tend to find their stride in times of great chaos and change, so it's little surprise that people like Gu Ailin now command the world's attention, as we are now in a period of time which Xi dubbed "Profound Changes Unseen in Centuries ".
Wouldn’t the closest English term be “anti-hero”?

Rumor has it that his dad contemplated pulling a Eileen Gu but was dissuaded by the worsening geopolitical climate. Rumor also has it that he is kicking himself now.
rumor has it the FBI sent some agents to make sure his dad had an "understanding" of what happens to those that betray America, maybe even shared with him a story or two about michael hastings car accident or how ray dalio's son died burning up inside of a Verizon 5G store of all places

(this is 100% sarcasm, seems to me Nathan Chen is one of those that would never have sided with China on anything anyway)

Interesting how we haven't heard Eileen Gu's father's position. All I've read is that he wasn't there to help raise his daughter. In the US that's called a deadbeat dad which would be a reason why the US media isn't talking about him and reluctant to because that doesn't help patriotic Americans' case against Eileen Gu. I'm sure someone is searching for him to smear his daughter.

Any pictures of them together? Only thing I heard is that her Dad got degree from some Ivy league so seems supersmart....

Could it be possible her dad is actually a sperm bank donor?

Most Victoria Secret models dont score perfect numbers on the SAT, and very few olympic winners look like supermodels

Otherwise after she won gold why wouldnt her dad speak to the press? Even deadbet dad would want to claim his 15 minutes... just feel like something is missing and we dont have the full story/picture

For me I dun feel much about Nathan representing US and not China. He clearly isn't pro China and likely dun feel deeply about the country and Chinese culture.

The one that got away for me is Emma radacanu. Similar background with Gu, Chinese mum, speaks fluent Chinese, identifies with Chinese culture, also with model type looks. Big commercial appeal. She won a Slam at early age, her endorsement are big right now but imagine if she represents china, instead of colonial Britain, her endorsement profile will be through the roof with plus hundred of millions of chinese supporting her. She can increase the profile of tennis in China which kinds stagnated after li na retired.

I think Eileen Gu is a special case. She visits China every year and was in contact with the Chinese skiing team at an early age. Chinese companies were the first in sponsoring her, way before any US company did. And she sees China like a second home.
One of her quotes during an interview - "When I'm in the US, I'm American. When I'm in China, I'm Chinese". So choosing to play for Team China is a natural choice.

Whereas when it comes to Nathan Chen and Emma Raducanu, they speak Chinese and have family ties there. But unfortunately they might not see it as their "home". Hence, they would rather play for the US and UK respectively.

Circumstances could have been different if Nathan and Emma were networked with China early on..
