Nah. No need to congratulate the US. They will never do the same if China won. They will make cheating accusations against Chinese athletes and try to get gold medalists disqualified for wearing a Mao badge. No need to be nice to a country that is actively trying to destroy you.
Yes, those people existed. But going by the NBC YouTube channel comments, tons of Americans were impressed by the ability and respected their prowess as well. And wished well for Chinese athletes.

I am really impressed by achievements of the China Team despite all the odds and adversity. Truly impressed by the major achievements in men's gymnastics, athletics, swimming, weightlifting, sailing, rowing, fencing, along with many of the traditional sports. Truly impressive achievements and improvement. I look forward to games in Paris where I hope to see more improvement as sports come of age in China.

Congratulations to the China Team for a job well done and keeping the dream alive.

It looks like the US will finish on top. 38 golds is very good and finished well ahead of Japan on their home turf. Swimming and athletics is the difference in the end. Athletics has many countries that can beat the US but in swimming it is only Australia that can beat the US consistently across multiple events.
A few good Chinese swimmers did do some swim training in Australia. Guess That's out the door now.

To be honest I think it's an improvement over London, but there were just too many unlucky near misses, like the diving where they lost gold by 1 point, weightlifting where they lost gold by 1kg, gymnastics where they lost by 0.1, butterfly 100m, trampoline, canoe c2, and a couple very even combat finals

How many near misses you get really depends more on luck than performance, this year China was just a bit more unlucky than usual, otherwise medal tally should be around 43~ golds

If you take the medal counts in terms of gold silver etc. This has been the most successful game for China outside of China (barring the Beijing Olympics).

I think the posts from both of you can go hand in hand and complement each other. Olympic Games is a sports game sure, both it also reflects the national strength and character. The performance and achievements in Olympic Games correlate quite strongly with those national qualities. The history of Chinese participation in the Olympic Games resonates strongly with the evolution/revolution of the development of the Chinese state. It will also serve as some proxy indicators of future development of Chinese state.

I was trying to highlight how far China has come. From being the laughing stock, through political isolation to giants amongst sporting nations. Something we all should feel very proud about.

China must focus on sending more athletes to the Olympics. And also team sports seem to be an after thought.

Sending more athletes doesn't equates to more medals. Also athletes have to meet certain minimum standards to qualify.

Gold medals don't matter until they do.

This is it. I'm not the one counting medals per se. I just against the way western MSM always using medal counts as propaganda against China. As far as I'm concern if China do well and give it it's all, that's good enough.

Frustrating end. US 39 golds vs China 38 golds. All the sinophobes will be celebrating. Makes me mad about those close misses in table tennis, diving, gymnastics, wrestling.

To me it was never about medal counts whatever the colour. It only became that because the western MSM have made it so. So if that's the case. China should add the one gold won by Hong Kong and two won by Chinese Taipei. Give it a total of 41 gold. US can add 1 for puerto Rico making then 40.

There you go, China wins. That's what trump would have done. But as I said, we are bigger than that, and its not a dick measuring contest. I'm just pleased that we have performed so well, and all athletes have given their hearts out.

Here here. Dont forget China achieved the best result outside of Beijing games, and this dispite the loaded dice the western nations have pre loaded with quotas, and games no one else plays like baseball, soft ball, equestrian etc.
