They have been testing these new toys, that is why they could randomly be spotted more easily.

Yeah, not expecting PLAN to do anything different. I'm really just lamenting the state of Info being spewed by the Western Defense Media, especially if you are not aware of better info from sites such as this forum.

With PLAN not stooping to directly addressing these nuke-sub-sunk-in-the-shallow-river rumors/lies, the swings in these medias, that either portray PLAN as comically inept or as a menacing peer to USN, continue.

The western reports was about a "Type 41" nuke sub that sunk in an inland base known mainly for building Type 039 SSK. There is no "Type 41" in the official record and no one had ever followed that model even in the OSINT community.

The Type 09III variants are well known SSNs built at the traditional location at Bohai and followed for years.

By making propaganda divorced from reality, these enemy organizations are marking themselves as less credible threats. Revealing a lack of intel capability, and a desparation for "good news" regardless of the source.

Truly unreal , these recent released images of the Type 093B “Nessie” …

( that’s the nickname I have given the Type 093B , that first image shot , when I first saw it , I thought Loch Ness Monster )

The fact that we’re getting these images ( when in the past that might have not been the case ) , shows a certain level(degree) of high confidence by the PRC/PLAN overall in their quest to build a top-tier Nuclear Attack Submarine , this is a very impressive development , We are all witnessing here.

I had been holding out , waiting for solid confirmation that the model and image art released prior was truly indeed what the Type 093B “Nessie” would actually represent.

Damn, it’s pretty much spot on … from the new blended(slanted) sail tower , to a improved hull / VLS ( possibly lengthen by a couple of meters to incorporate the VLS module ) and a shrouded propeller or pump jet.

I Don’t Need to see the latter ( shrouded or pump ) , to know that It’s There.

This thing will pack a punch ,

6x533-mm TT ( presumably “20+” mines / torpedoes load out )
“3x6” VLS ( presumably “18” YJ-18 load out )

Can You imagine?..What a volley of YJ-18s launched from a pack of 093Bs stalking a task group , would do?..Sure there’s a likelihood that most would be down in the process, but a few would still sneak through to cause some serious damage.

We will probably never know it’s full capabilities regarding it’s S3 ( stealth , sensors , top speed ) , in reality that can be said about any top-tier Attack Sub today no less.

But What can be stated is that the PRC/PLAN have made massive investments to improve it’s capabilities and by that alone the Type 093B will be vastly superior to the Type 093 earlier variants by a great margin in those 3 fields.

I believe All images released so far , are probably of the same boat and most likely the lead boat. I am also willing to bet that the by years end , All 8 of the first batch would have been launched. If trials go satisfactory , Don’t be shocked if another batch of 8 pops out based on the trends. ( That just My Opinion )

Look out , If the Type 093B “Nessie” is even half as advertised , It’s going to cause the USN command Fits All Day ,

A fleet of 50 or so Type 093B/095 will keep the USN at bay...

Side rant , connecting some dots . . .

2021…

AUKUS ( cough ) “AssUs” is formed

The RAN is to receive 5-8 boats of 2 types by 2040ish
The RN is TBD but presumably “5-7” to replace some of its Astute boats by 2030ish

The PRC/PLAN , construction on the first batch of the Type 093B starts.

Fast Forward 2024…

AUKUS ( cough ) “AssUs” , Not a single piece of steel has been cut for this new endeavor to date.

The PRC/PLAN , 4-8 Type 093Bs have been launched so far , We get Our first image of the Type 093B “Nessie” what early September ( but the image was probably taken in August or even earlier , because everything for the most part must get official approval before releasing )

Things are looking good for the PRC Nuclear Submarine Programs , but No ( “The West” ) We can’t have that…

So out of the blue We get this WSJ story a couple weeks later ( which they sat on since July ) supposedly claiming that a new PLAN Nuclear Submarine sank pier side in June , setting the PLAN Program back…

Hmm believe in coincidences…( You Don’t sit on a story that juicy that Long , in today’s world of geopolitics )

The PRC/PLAN are extremely secretive ( especially when it comes to their Nuclear Submarine Programs ) so they know they’re being watched ( satellites overhead , they even have a good idea about the ultra secret ones too ) , had something really really happened and the PRC was really really trying to cover something up , that satellite would have been blinded or had a mechanical malfunction of some kind.

Also the PLAN doesn’t have a track record of losing things tied to the pierside in recent years to my knowledge ( cough ) uss Maimi , uss Bonhomme… ( cough ) fire extinguishers someone

insert LL COOL J‘s track “Jealous“ from his Walking With A Panther Album sums it All up for Me…

interesting enough, one of the guys on Weibo said 093B uses "REEV" tech. Let's watch out to see if 093B will use diesel-electric, because that imo would reduce some of the noise making parts. You would just have the engine generating electricity and storing that in a large battery pack which would then power the electric drive to operate the electric motor to turn the turbine. That would saves a lot of space since you don't need the shaft anymore (or at least I don't think you need it) or the gearbox??? Maybe you still need a simpler reduction gear?

Looking at this, they need the steam generator and reactor coolant pump for the electricity generation

What else do they need that's mechanical and makes a lot of noise, I'm not sure.
