Any news on this? I thought someone said two are being constructed right now, how come no news?

Based on info from Big Shrimps and Henry.K, they building 2 unit of Type 075 LHA right now in HDZH and Jiangnan Shipyard.

Maybe we will see some photos in Spring 2018, after Chinese New Year Holiday

Will be interesting to see if this is true.

If it is...we weill see the hulls and recognize them for what they are soon enough.

Some big shrimps say two in construction I heard. But I don't believe it. It is a complete new class of ship they have 0 experience in operating. Not even a sample like the carrier to study. It is way too big a risk going off a design and build two without playing around with a first generation and debug and optimise.

You will be surprised

They have moved very fast

There was a time when we all thought a flat deck was beyond China's capabilitys until 2020

After following the construction of CV-17 I can say for sure that china can do 100% LHA/LHD in breakneck speed

HDZH is a brilliant yard

Russia was about to.
Eqypt did.
France did
Turkey will
Australia does

Why shoulnd they?
2 lhds for training and youll have 2 units in faster operation then just building one.
Many lhds on the planet to see how it should be done...

I'm talking about the design of them, not just operation. A first generation design is never perfect, there is always going to be something that works well on paper but not in real life. Or things that are missing due to no experience of operation.
Take carriers for example. 017 is constructed and design finalized when 016 has been used for several years. So the engineers can have feedback from sailors on what they want.
Considering how big a price tag each one of these are, I don't think they want to produce two lemons.

LHDsare not like destroyers or frigates where China have plenty of experience. This is revolution and not evolution in design. Most of the nations mentioned by Mitch have no experience in design, they bought ships from countries with proven engineering ability.

That's why they're only building two.
One is enough for training and debugging of design. If it turns out to be a lemon, you will only have one not two.

Back in the early 00s, new destroyers were build in twos because at least they had destroyer experience. In the case of LHDs it is like adding parts of 071 with 016 with a whole bunch of new sub systems and undefined procedures. Building two increase your risk by quite a bit.

No project gate keeper will allow unmitigated high risk items through, especially in unknown areas.
