think simply why USN have to restrict the width of its supercarriers, which is to fit in the Panama Canal.

The last USN CV able to traverse the Panama canal were the WWII Essex class.

CV-41 to CVN-77 cannot travel through the Panama Canal. They are too wide.

I'm still wondering why major powers don't build super ships to have bigger capacities. To be honest, even the 20-30,000 tons LPDs are still pretty small if you really think about it. They don't have to have many weapon systems. Their main task is to carry personnel and weapons across the sea. So why not just build huge ones, like 150,000 tons or something. Like I mentioned a few days ago, the current generations of LPDs are still only around 20-40,000 tons. They sound big but still only carry so much. If you build a 150,000-200,000 tons monster, 2 or 3 of them would be enough to carry like 50,000 troops or few hundred main battle tanks. This would be very effective, whereas current fleets' few hundred men at a time is fish-food size destined to be annihilated.
I think a monster ship wouldn't cost too much, since the only thing different would be the size. All it needs is a bigger engine and more steel. Current electronic systems would still work.

There are many countries around the world with shipyards that can build large supertankers and container ships. The difference between a civilian merchant ship vs. military ship is that the civilian ship is built with profitability in mind. If you built a super tanker and can't make a profit in transport, you can still convert it to a FSO (floating production, storage and offloading).

Military vessels, on the other hand, does not generate a profit. It's a pure expense on the state's treasury. You'd also have to consider the limited number of docking facilities that can handle very large ships, ability to transit through Panama canal, and so on. Also, as seen in Iran-Iraq war, it's kinda hard to miss a 500,000 DWT oil tanker.

For Navies on a budget, I think the Danish Absalon class flexible support ship with StanFlex mission module is a good choice.

I dont think this is the 3rd Type 071 LPD, some Chinese forums have said its just a tanker

When did they start building tankers at HuDong shipyard? If you are referring to replenishment ships, the new ones are all being built at Guangzhou shipyard. If you compare this section to an earlier photo of the 2nd unit, it's pretty clear this is a Type 071

As to helo carrier, I think pla navy is awayting a genereation of indigeniously (co)developped helo with sufficient loadbearing capacity (Zhi-15?) both for assaulttransport and for asw-ash and aew work, before launching this vessel.
Anyway what are you with a ship if you either have second hand outdated- , or need to borrow its main modern weaponry?
