re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft

If Wiki is correct, the first ship was launched in 2006. Almost four years after that, so it should be some improvement on this one, I guess?

Maybe they spent the last 4 years building modules and now they can start assembly them in numbers. All this time maybe they are also researching new ship?

Take a look on the top people. It is already launched. You can judge for yourself whether it changed or not. Why do I see launch notices?

We have not seen 054a launched from hudong today.

Yeah... (red-faced) very embarrassing.

Actually, the entire thing was kind of amazing, because the ship was still in blocks when the first set of photos came out in late May. Even as late as August, the photos were still showing blocks. And now in the space of less than 6 months, something the size of 071 class got launched. Looks like HD shipyard can really pump these things out.

Some more photos taken in the day time.

Yup, seems like it's more stealthy now.

The proof what a good economy can do. Just compare this with the Russian ship building, it takes them 5-10 year to get thier vessels launched.

So this will be still 071? What would be the minimum changes needed to justify a new suffix such as 071a ? Are slight changes to the angles on the ships surface be enough or does there need to be a minimum percentage of alterations? Maybe specific systems need to change. Are there any hard and fast rules to this?

The outer rear corner of the funnel seems to lean over 90 degrees now where the first 071 looked at exact right angles.Just pointing out an observation.

*I think it is just the different perspectives i'm looking at actually.

As has been said above it's remarkable how quickly this ship has taken shape! Any speculation as to how many PLAN is planning to construct?
