989 (unofficial) is almost ready to go (where?)

998, 999 and now 989. Three very fine and modern LPD additions to the PLAN Amphibious force.

And I would not be surprised to see more built in the future. Of course, they may move on to an LHD...but I believe they should have more LPDs first...we'll see what happens.

Just the same, that third vessel is looking very trim and squared away.

3 is good but it is certainly not enough

the 2 Marine brigades might not be used for amphibious assault, but having the ability to do so would be greatly beneficial

I think China should be able to lift at least at the minimum a single 6,000 man Marine brigades using a combination of LPDs and LHDs

if we have a 20,000 ton sized LHD it will carry somewhere close to 800-1,000 troops, so same as Type 071, so it means China needs at minimum 7 LPDs and LHDs, but 10 to have 7 operational at any one time, so I would call it 6 x Type 071 LPDs and 3 x LHDs which could quite easily lift a 6,000 strong landing force, now that is something reasonable for PLAN, still not a massive capability but enough for a country the size of China surrounded by islands, disputes and interests further away

Btw I don't think that is inside Type 071, the standard looks way too low

I've been on board a Type 42 destroyer and seen pics of the inside of Chinese built F22P frigates, Azmat Class missile boat and inside Type 46 DDG, this doesnt compare

The first picture, Why is there pipes coming through the floor toilet? The piping of the urinals look a sham

The pipe work in the fourth picture looks awful, in t he bottom right hand side they have bolts on right on the end of the bend, that is not standard naval pipework where you leave a fixed space before bending a pipe and fitting a bolt

The 2nd last picture shows a diagram of a ship that doesn't look like Type 071

The last pic has clothes hanging from the ceiling on blue hangers, and in the background there is a air conditioned unit sticking out, are you really trying to say Type 071 does not have internal vented air con? This is a exposed part of the ship which people can see, no this is just way too low for a ship on the class of a Type 071

Onboard the Type 42 DDGs they have the ships in emaculate condition, they are old but very well maintained, the lower part of the ship is sometimes slightly lower standard than the deck but still they are spotless, the maintenance is second to none

Maybe someone can explain more

I sincerely hope not. That bathroom needs some serious remodeling, like with vertical panels instead of sloped ones, and recessed or hidden piping.

If these all came from the same ship then I don't believe this is the 071. I cannot identify any opening on photos of the 071 that corresponds to an opening like we see in the last photo here. The port and starboard openings at the aft end of the 071 have openings that are taller than they are wide and are screened, whereas these openings are wider than they are tall, and are not screened.

Also, that boat launch setup looks too low to the water compared to the 071's, and looks like it's open-air, whereas the 071's boat room is higher and enclosed on 3 sides. It also uses a different boat than what we've seen on the 071. It actually looks like a totally enclosed lifeboat rather than a dinghy. I don't believe the 071 has any of those.

I think this is definitely some other (PLAN) ship, though, judging by the Chinese characters on the control panel. And the hanging laundry. :D Maybe one of the LST's or logistics ships. I'll look through some photos later if I get the chance.

Holy crap how can anyone mistake it as the 071?! Do you see those openings on the 071?

I am curious why they don't put a pair of HQ10 on this ship? It is a valuable capital ship worthy of the best protection and retrofitting this point defense missile in place of a pair of the guns would seem logical to the casual observers.
