It is 989 长白山.

And it is not the first time that the pennant number of a newbuilding was first noted on the ship's boats.

re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft

i think with the addition of the 3rd Type 071 LPD China will be able to deploy atleast 1 out of its 2 marine battalions of 6,000 men to first/second island chains if the need arises

we have seen 3D excersies of 1 x Type 071 LPD along with 4-5 Type 072 III and II, with the LPD also acting as a command and control platform, with emphasis on helicopters which is a very good sign

if we have 3 such landing partys using all 3 x Type 071 LPDs and say between 12-15 Type 072 III and IIs we can easily see that they can transport ~6,000 marines and their equipment

Type 072 III and II also have helipads, which means they could carry helicopters, maybe Naval WZ10s and Z9s, and have 12 x Z8s on the the 3 x Type 071 LPDs, giving almost more than 2 dozen helicopters

for the sake of argument if we say 12 x Z8s, 6 x WZ10 and 6 X Z9 that would be not a bad airborne force with the attack helos providing vital airsupport, as Pakistan Army found out in its COIN operations using AH-1 Cobras the visual identification and accuracy that a attack helo provides is very beneficial to attacking forces and would sweep in prior to the amphibious landings

the landings themselves would use, hovercraft, amphibious vehicles and helicopters, i.e. land, sea and air all simultaneously all working together with first wave using over-the horizon strategy, however over the horizon can only be done by Type 071 as it needs helicopters, but if PLAN wants true 100% over the horizon capability’s it will require a LHD in future

however before any of this happens a SSN would be needed ahead of the landing forces, air cover from the mainland and ASW aircraft also flying in from the mainland

it would also require FFG or DDG sitting off the coast giving early warning and providing airdefence

I think you mean Marine brigades.

They have this somewhat peculiar organisation with an amphibious armoured regiment consisting of one armoured battalion (ZTD05) and two armoured infantry battalions (ZBD05), one artillery battalion (PLZ07B-122) and three non-mechanised infantry battalions, probably used for garrison duty on the South China Sea islands.

I believe that only the armoured regiment + artillery battalion + other reinforcements (air defence, engineers, etc.) would be used for amphibious operations.

Slightly off topic and without sour, as it is from Marine Forum Daily News:

09 August

CHINA
Latest passenger ro-/ro ship BOHAI EMERALD BEAD (36,000 ts) has a secondary military role … may be employed in strategic sealift (carry 2,000+ soldiers and some 300 vehicles) … three sister ships under construction.
