I'm not sure how much if any improvement can be made on the Type 071, I mean it's good a very modern stealth shaped hull probably one of the top in the world which can last for decades to come

replace the 76mm with a 130 mm gun? or add some FL-3000?

I'm not all that fussed about the main gun, as it would be very rare you would want ships like LDPs to operate as fire support platforms in this day and age. FL3000 would be a big improvement though, maybe even go as far as to add some cells of the future universal VLS if they can find the room.

That would leave the possibility of adding a ESSM style medium range weapon to further enhance the self-defence capabilities of the class. FL3000 and AKs are all well and good, but they are all very short ranged and leave very little margin for error when intercepting incoming missiles.

With an ESSM style weapon, you get a longer reach and additional reaction time to mount further defences if your SAMs miss their target first time round. Even with FL3000, by the time you realise one of the SAMs missed, you might have only seconds to intercept the AShM before it impacts the ship.

I also feel that the 071 could use a bigger hanger and helipad, but that is not really a criticism of the existing design as what it has is perfectly respectable for a ship of it's size. It would just be nice to have more room and capacity.

So what can they change, capacity and more modern systems, I don't even think that is necessary

Some of the pictures from earlier threads showed 071s could use some improvements in crew living conditions. Items like better bunks, with personal lockers and such. Crew comfort could affect crew effectiveness, so even minor impovements may have long-term payoffs.

In terms of armament I don't think there's anything Type 071 LPD needs as it will probably never operate alone

If it needs anything I think that is the ability to carry 4 medium sized helicopters and to transport a battalion along with all their equipment which I think the Type 071 can do, however I am not 100% sure about the 4 x Z8 capability which in my opinion is a fundamental must, being able to ferry troops is why LPDs are built and very valuable assets to have, 4 such helos could lift 100 marines in a single wave and also support heavy vertical replenishments at sea ~25 tons

Hoi popeye,
I just took all information given by Marine Forum Daily News using my mouse buffer. There was no reference to their source and it seems all old items are lost when they renew their news which they do five times a week.
