Oldman? Come on paintgun...you're nailing me hard here. LOL!

But...as a matter of fact...Yes I am. And those grandkids are about 130% of the total. The models? Oh, maybe 10%

But it's a fun 10%...hehehe.

Yes, I am keeping them at 1/350 scale.

Specifically I am building vessels that will be likely to comprise a PLAN Carrier Strike Group...or an joint force strike group that would include the carrier and one of the LPDs if they come out with a 1/350 scale Type 071, which I believe they will. So, in that regard, I will probably not be building the Type 056 or Type 022 vessels.

See the following site to see what I intend to build for my whole project of Carrier Strike Groups for The US, China, the UK and Russia.

I think you will be able to add India soon, if any model maker would make a model for the Vikramaditya.

Btw did you grand kids ever developed a preference for specific ship models or fleets?

Well, you would think the Vikramaditya would come out in 1/350 scale (which is a very popular scale), and the new Vikrant as well.

But, I would have already thought, with all the years they have been being ddeveloped, and with the "big" news they represent in the west where a lot of those model dollars come from in terms of purchasing, that a 1/350 scale USS Gerald R. Ford and an HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier would already have been made. And yet, they have not.

Same thing with a 1/350 scale San Anotnio Class LPD. These are very popular ships...but no 1/350 scale model yet.

So we may have to wait a while.

I want the Canberra's for Australia and the Hyuga and 22DDHs for Japan too.

Anyhow, yes, any of the new Indian carriers would get purchased by me ASAP...as well as a model in 1/350 scale of the new Kolkata DDGs.

My grandsons involved with the model building are still relatively young. About 12 years old and 10 years old. The older is really inclined towards the older sailing vessels and has a 1/350 scale USS Constitution he is about to start on. He is building it using my 1/196 wooden, museum quality USS Constitution to go from and use to help him get it right.

The younger one is more into the modern military vessels. He helped me build the 1/350 scale USS Ohio SSGN recently which he will give to his dad this father's day because his dad is career US Navy and served aboard the Ohio.

Jeff, go for scratch build. After that you can literally build any model of any kind for your collection.

That would be nice...but I am just not up to that. Some people, like the older fellow from England who built an entire 600 ship navy in 1/350 scale amaze me.

The best example is the following site:

This guy builds 1/72 scale aircraft from kits that are marketed everywhere to put on the deck of his 1/72 scratch built USS Enterprise which is 15 ft long and almost and over 4ft wide! Took him 19 years. Now that is a scratch build.

Anyhow, I am still looking forward to the day that there is a 1/350 scale Type 071 LPD to add to my PLAN group.

I did just purchase two of the new Trumpeter 1/350 scale Type 054A frigates. Specifically I will build the 530 and the 570 for my PLAN CGS. Here's a link to Trumpter's site announcing them. They will not be available here in the states until August, but I ordered two from a model site in China (
