I think upwards of 30 or more opf these vessels is not too large a projected number.

If they wwere to produce 4 per year, they would be there by 2020. Probably at least an additional ASW version or mod package to add that as a srtong suite as a part of the buildup

We shall see...but by doing so they would significantly upgrade their coastal patrol and littoral defense and interdiction capabilities.

Until now J-10B remains a rumour. No contract signed and no announce of how many procure and delivery date. Worst, there is no follow up.

So you can't be sure of 056 Corvette too.

Eight point-defense SAMs needs weak for a ship of this size, especially considering several missiles will need to be fired at each incoming anti-ship missile. Does the 056 have any other anti-missile capabilities, like a gun-based CIWS? Any idea why the 056 chose missiles as its CIWS instead of the Type 730 or 1030 gun?

Unlike CIWS, RAM infra sensor missile can fired and forget. Giving it ability to engage a few inbound missiles.

056 expected opponents are weak naval warship who could the most afford fire 2 missile at her...

Yes it does confirm it and I thank you and stand corrected myself because I thought it was 11.

IMHO, then, they should either have two of these mounts on this vessel, or add a Type 730 CIWS...which may be too heavy, my guess is that another eight missile launcher would be lighter.

probably faster than that. Type 022 was produced at around 20+ per year. 056 isn't much bigger, it's still a small ship and its internals won't be that complicated; building one won't take that long. 054A could be produced at 4-8 per year, then 056 could at least be produced at 10 per year.

Well, irrespective of what they could do. the Type 054A has been produced at 2-3 per year.

Type 056 is much bigger and more complicated than Type 022.

Type 022 is 225 tons, ASuW missile launchers, one CIWS and a minimum of sensors.

Type 056 is 1,400 tons, has a 76mm main gun, torpedo tubes, ASuW missile launchers, an FN-3000 missile system, a helo pad, and many more sensors.



If thy build four a year in the two shipyards, they will do fine...word is they may add another one or two shipyards, in which case they will be able to produce 6-8 per year, which is what I expect will ultimately happen. How soon? Who knows. Right now we know they are using HP and HD and those will clearly be able to each produce two per year pretty easily.

That's disappointing really, only 8 launcher, I expected 11 or even more. But I guess it can be upgraded quite easily in the future

I think maybe people are expecting too much from this little ship. With its current air defence setup I would say it has better antimissile protection than the Luhai class destroyer. Or the Luhu, Luda, JW, JWII, and 054 classes of ships for that matter, basically any class that relies on the HQ-7. And it's only 1,500 tons at the most.
