May be a good idea to subcontract some of the work to other shipbuilders that are having overcapacity in the current economy slowdown.

yeap, but remember it can also carry unlimited number of Man-Portable SAM (perhaps QW-3/4), which are as good
I'm skeptical of the utility of MANPADS for shooting down anti-ship missiles. When anti-ship missiles are launched, the targeted ship only has a couple minutes, top, to shoot it down. That's barely enough time for the crew to dig out the MANPAD, get up on deck and acquire the target. MANPADs are designed to shoot down helicopters and UAVs, not sea-skimming missiles. You need an automatic, computerized system of RAM-type missiles and CIWS to have a chance at downing an anti-ship missile. You can't trust sailors with shoulder-fired missiles to be even your second line of defense. The sailors will be nervous as hell holding that thing and pointing it at a missile coming right for them.

I remember there was one lucky french sailor who managed to shoot down one anti-ship missile with the ship 0.5 gun. But hell he was lucky, I bet lady luck will not strike him again....

I very highly doubt that Manpads can down cruise/anti-ship missiles, the Manpad will probably not even get a lock on such a small fast moving missile, Manpad is good for helos and low flying aircraft

however during Gulf War there was limitation on which route Tomahawks were taking into Iraq to hit high value Iraqi targets, consequently when Iraqis seen a Tomahawk it was usually followed up by sucession of follow on missiles, in this way on a number of ocassions the Iraqis managed to down Tomahawk missiles using anti-aircraft guns but again its pretty hard business and simply not practical

missile interception is a hard business and requires all sorts of complicated trajectorys and computing power, even sophisticated CIWS have a hard time shooting down anti-ship missiles at close range, and they have a extremely high rate of fire

How would you compare this baby with Russian Project 20385 (Steregushchy-class) ? are they in the same class, it seems to me the Project 20385 is significantly bigger , no ?

Project 20385 is about 50% bigger in size and packs a far greater punch, probably far more expensive too. 1x A-190 100m gun, 2xAK630, 12x 9M96 S-400 VLS, 6x VLS Klub and hanger for helo. Project 20385 is truly a light frigate rather a OPV.

Rumor has it, county level city names will be used. 367 possibilities.

My understanding was that this particular position was mainly for torpedo tubes.

Thank you both for the feedback. With 367 naming possibilities, that's a lot of potential hulls. =)

Some others feel the armament is lighter than they expected but considering the primary theater the ship is designed for, SCS, and maybe Diaoyutai, it's the right mix at the right price. 056 is a budget vessel much like the Perrys were for the USN.

There is another photo that suggested 3+2+3=8 missiles

2nd Type 056 launch. I wonder how long the second batch of two will take to launch. Late this year?

I also wonder how long they will take to commission these vessels. One year?

I believe the PLAN is going to produce these very rapidly and in numbers.
