what do you mean a 053H was lost?

I think that's 520, Kaifeng, ran aground in 1985 and scrapped.

Personally, I don't think any more of the Jianghu's will be refurbed for CG duty. They don't readily have a helipad in the back and cost of retrofit probably isn't justifiable. The Jiangwei's would be more plausible.

yeah Jiangweis are more capable and are from the 1990s

Pakistans F22Ps are based on the 053H3, the last and 4th one, PNS Aslat which was made at Karachi dockyard under ToT is due to be commissioned next year, it will serve for a very long time to come, so I think China will also use Jiangweis for years to come, they are pretty good and have plenty of space ofr upgrades

as for Type 056 corvettes, ships like these and others really demonstrate that China is capable of making world class ships with world class systems, also China has shown flexibility in that it can customise ships for needs of export requirments, like F22P and new 500 ton fast attack ship

Type 056 will also free up ships like Type 054As which are more better suited to escort duties for carriers groups or deployment to deep ocean going missions

having a large number of Type 056 back home for coastal protection would be seem like a good idea , power projections goes to Type 054A and Type 052C

ah ok, for Jianghus

053H-
x 2 were transfered to coast guard
x 2 were decommissioned
x 1 was lost

053H1-
x 2 sold to Burma
x 1 sold to Bangladesh

053HT-H
x 1 training ship

053H2-
x 2 sold to Bangladesh

Strictly speaking, there were also two 053H1 (538, 546) sold to Egypt.

544 is Type 053H1Q. 053HT is the designation for the four built for Thailand, with 053HT-H being 457 and 458 with a helicopter platform.

Bangladesh is also acquiring two 053H2G, probably 541 and 542.

Interesting. Where did you find out Bangladesh is acquiring 541 and 542? I was under the impression they'd be purchase F-22B (something like F-22P that PN got). It would make sense, since their old flotilla is taken over by 054A now.

A Bangladeshi reader in another forum reported that the Bangladesh Navy will get two 053H2G in 2012 or 2013 to replace the truely antiquated F 15 and F 16. I guess they will be 541 and 542 which are still at Dinghai, while sisters 539 and 540 have been transferred to Shanghai-Wusong.

it's quite possible. According to one of the guys on DT, the F-22B deal is on hold and they are just getting the Jianghu frigates. Also, he made mention that all the FACMs are getting upgraded with C-704s.

And that would not be a bad deal either, IMHO. Any idea how many they are ultimately talking about getting? Just the last two H2Gs?

The H2G and H3 vessels are to this day very decent FFGs and carry quite a punch for their size in both the ASW and ASuW roles, with relatively effective close in AAW defenses for themselves.
