I think by all accounts and purpose Type 055 is a cruiser regardless of its classification
I think by all accounts and purpose Type 055 is a cruiser regardless of its classification
A satellite photo of Dalian shipyward from Terraserver, dated 11/25/2017. Two 055s and three 052Ds are captured in the photo.
Technically five as the two keels starting to get assembled in the drydock in front of the two 055s are 052Ds.
Can they launch the 55's without first finishing the 52's? Can the drydock be divided?
Than we can say the same thing to JMSDF air craft carrier as a "destroyer"?I think by all accounts and purpose Type 055 is a cruiser regardless of its classification
The cruiser classification is obsolete and useless. For all intents and purposes, modern naval combatants are either frigates or destroyers, and the line between those two are blurring as well. The only reason the USN stuck to the "cruiser" classification is because they felt insecure about the Soviet Kirovs. The PLAN does not share that insecurity and they have chosen to call the 055 exactly what it is; a destroyer.
Let the "cruiser" classification die.
We are getting a little of topic here, but Japan is really not fooling anyone by calling the Izumo class a "helicopter carrying destroyer". It is plain fact, a helicopter carrier.Than we can say the same thing to JMSDF air craft carrier as a "destroyer"?
