All of which makes this fan-art amusing:

The other superstructure that was mentioned is probably this one. The terrain (and smog) suggests this mast is taken not far from the 055 structure and the liaoning facility. And the fact that it isn't on the 055 structure makes me think it is not for 055, but possibly for the new frigate.

If you noticed, combatants that PLAN has built in the past decade share the same mast design. I expect the integrated mast will be standard on all future PLAN's carriers, LPDs, destroyers, and frigates.

One possible extrapolation:

Clearly, this design is going to feature an integrated funnel, VLS in the bow and amid ship. I can't figure out where the AESA radars may go though, because the front of the superstructure looks to have enough area for radar panels or bridge windows, but not both. Could this just be the next generation frigate?

If it's 23 m wide, as GE suggests, then it's too big for a frigate.

EDIT: The picture in post #454 still has the potential for the AESA radars to be mounted about the bridge, since it's clearly not finished yet.

Actually, the masts between 054, 054A, 052B/C/D are all slightly different.

Now it may turn out that the next gen frigate and 055 share the same mast but I wouldn't count on it, mostly because of the vast difference in size of both ships and their intended roles. But they may have a scalable mast. We will see.
