According to sources provided by Henri K., the successor to the 055 is what has entered study/research phase. This closely correlates to the Chinese pattern of "building one generation, developing one generation, and studying the next generation".

That's hardly a uniquely Chinese pattern. It is the pattern of any navy undergoing a major expansion.

if true that studies for next class have only just begun, It would also suggest next large surface combatant after 055 (successor to 054a not counted as large combatant here) will not enter service before 2030s or so. Study/development/build/test cycle for complex new ships certainly points in such direction.

What is there to say? The top photo is very obviously French. I'm curious about the second photo.

Indeed top pic is the Shore Integration Facility of the French Navy/THales/DCNS in St Mandrier across from Toulon naval base. I've personally been there.
