Can anyone tell me why ship must have a string of flags. It seems on ChangZhou they are flying flages of 30 countries.

I think the HD people were a little worried that HP was going to launch its 6th ship ahead of HD's 5th ship, so they really sped up for the past week and amazingly got it launched in one week. I'm actually a little speechless on how fast they got the scaffolding taken down, sensors installed, prepared everything and got it launched.

Looks like they can really produce a lot more of them if they commit more resources to it. Or maybe they just launch it less completed than HP shipyard.

Seeing how advanced Hull 11 is, it might rather look as if Huangpu is holding back their next launch so as to respect the pre-ordained order of appearance, i.e. Huangpu Hulls 1, 3, 5, 7, etc., and Hudong Hulls 2, 4, 6, 8 and so on ad infinitum.

This cannot disguise the evident fact that Huangpu is ahead by a full building cicle.

Fitting-out takes much the same at both yards, about 11 months, though HD might be a bit slower.

Looks like for once an 054A is launched without its sea eagle radar pre installed...

typically, HD 054As are launched with less sensors installed than HP 054As. You can go back to the very first HD 054A and see it's launch photos.

yes they generally do take about the same time these days. My point is that it seems like HD really accelerated the pace this time. We've seen with this 054A and the 2nd Type 071 that HD shipyard can really move fast when it's pressed to do so. So, I wonder what is stopping them from going faster in general. It could be because they have a lot of civilian orders also. It could also be because they have limited resource and commit all of them to deadline projects first.

Yes, we saw exactly the same when HD 4 (549 CHANGZHOU) was launched last May. We could not believe our eyes, as only a month earlier all we saw was a red-leaded hull.

It is of course easier to speed up construction of a particular newbuilding by concentrating work force there than to maintain a sustained high rate of production. I am not sure HD is doing any civilian work, but they normally have more naval projects in hand than HP, e.g. Types 071, 815G, F-22P, besides 054A.

HD has a lot of civilian orders. They were the first to build LNGs in China. HP also has a good number of civilian orders. Although, they are built at the new HP shipyard location. The one where we see all of the 054A pictures seem to only be building ships from PLAN and other gov't ministries.
