from this, it appears that the official title for the HQ-16 SAMs including the launch system is H/AJK-16. This is its design certification from April 10th 2010. I'm a little surprised it was not earlier. I'm not sure if it's for a new variant or just that the existing variant had a lot more testing to go through.

If, and it is still an if, we are looking at the 11th 054A then this is a major development. Not only does it mean that we will see 12 054A class (meaning the total 054 class will equal the Jiangwei class at 14 units) but it also gives an indication of the investment that is now going into the China Navy surface fleet, and it is dramatic. China's current naval building programme is outstanding.

Is that April 10th or October 4th? Besides it looks like a picture taken of a picture, the civilians in the picture wears fall/winter cloths, this might not be originally taken during spring time in April, and I'd safely guess this was taken sometime earlier than this year.

For one thing, installing something yet certified on so many combat vessel would be a risky investment to say the least.

And on the subject of the photo, apart from the obvious large number of navy officers among the military representatives, there're those from the army and airforce as well...

What's the possibility that H/AJK-16 is the name for the VLS system and not the missiles itself?

I really don't know. I do think it is for the missile itself though.

Got a couple of pictures from HP shipyard. The 3rd and 5th 054A from HP are still sitting outside, but I didn't post them here. The first picture should be the 6th 054A from HP. You can see the hull and the smoke stack. The second picture is a shot of the docks. Looks like they got quite a few ships stuffed in there. HP is quite busy.

This is why Chinese Navy warships appear to make such rapid progress in the last few weeks/months of construction. By that point in time it is simple a case of welding the blocks together.

Pictures of the 4th 054A from HD shipyard coming back from sea trials. It looks like this should be ready to join ESF pretty soon. Even so, HD shipyard is still quite behind HP shipyard in 054As. From the last picture, it seems like the 5th one still needs some work before getting launched.
