Why have they all got satchels? It makes them look like school children.

What have they got in them that they need to all keep carrying the satchels even when seated at their stations? If it's something that important that the men need to have about their persons at all times, you'd think they could have designed something more suitable...

For once, I hope this is just a staged photo, and they the guys loose the schoolbags as soon as the cameras are out of there.

The satchels contain personal protection equipments.

And are those wheely chairs?! Hands up who think that could go badly wrong?

That two chairs with headrest are firmly attached to the floor, but this doesn't seem to be the case for the chairs without head rest.

The ergonomics and layout of the CIC also doesn't seem to be as good as its western counterpart.

One of the two type 054, 525 under refit.
Not that the HQ-7 was removed.

This documentary highlights a serious problem: China doesn't have enough ship in Gulf of Aden. I hope they will build more replenishment ships so they can send more than two ships on patrol.

If to consider the "ocean-going certified" surface combatants the PLAN have, you can omit anything before the 052s DDG and 054s FFG, from that numbers to deduce those needed for the fleet's original duties, there's even less active ships available for the expedition.

Indeed, the PLAN's expedition is stretching their small fleet of AO ships to their limit. In essence, the hull lifespan of those AO ships are burning out at a faster rate than their original design specification; however, all the hulls known to be in construction are warships from corvettes to LPDs, but no AO ships.

Now, the availability of AO ships is critical if to organize any battlegroup, the shortage of AO ships and no new designs slated for construction means the PLAN is still envisioning fights within the 1st island chain, where the lack of AO ships isn't that big of a penalty here.

So, when we see there's new AO ship hulls (at least 3 to 5, to replace the current ones and to expand) at shipyard in Shanghai or Dalian, then it'd be safe to estimate PLAN's first bona-fide carrier battlegroup should be a year or two away.

Pardon but what does AO=?

AO is actually less problematic.

Their low speed diesels prob are better at long sustained cruises at sea then those propulsion plants on destroyers and frigates.

just take Seychelles' offer and base 2 frigates there.
