Some recent photos of 054As. From HP shipyard, we see its 6th and 7th 054A. The 6ht one has its aftmast already painted, looks like it's going to join the navy very soon.

any thoughts on whether if future designs will get bigger? maybe 054 series shifting to 7k range and 052 series shifting to 10k+ range?

PS: I just read tphuangs blog. he mentioned that 052's were not mass produced few years back was due to bottlenecks in the localization of the Ukranian engines. is that problem solved now?

Hi CottageLV,

For the size of the next generation of PLAN surface combatants:
Propulsion ultimately determines the size of the vessel. From a few interviews of retired PLAN officers and ship building experts in China, I speculate that the next generation fleet will be consist of destroyers with 4 gas turbines, with frigates with 2 gas turbines. In this case, it's very likely that the next generation destroyers are ~9000 ton, while the frigates are ~5000 ton.

For the Ukranian engines problem: Yes, it has been solved

Kroko,Kroko again they have mass produced 14 of 054A series and 6 of 052C Assuming 2 GT for 054 and 4 GT for 052 then they need 52 GT the size of LM 2500 which is around 26 MW

Logic would tell us they must solve all the problem or they will end up with a lot of repair So far we haven't heard of 054 type stranded in the red sea because of engine malfunction
