My comment is correct and you are wrong, read the link, the ship is designed with weight and space margins for upgrades that could theoretically be used for Tomahawks, but the ship is not designed for Tomahawks.

My own suggestion would be to end the arguement, the name calling, and the Horizon DDG discussion and get back on topic with the Type 054A. But that's just my free advise as a long-time member. The mods will only allow so much and certain types of off-topic, and IMHO, this aint it.

This will be my last comment on the Type 45 DDG in this thread (apologies to the mods). I second Jeff's opinion and if you guys want to discuss the Type 45 DDG in length, we can start a new thread on the subject.

The Type 45 DDG's design allows possible future fitting of Mk.41 VLS system, which can be used to deploy the Tomahawk cruise missiles. However, this would be an expensive upgrade and unlikely to occur. The ship's design also allocated space for 2x4 Harpoon launchers above-deck, which would be a much cheaper option, and the Harpoon SSM has secondary land attack capability.

As armchair admirals, we like to speculate and fantasize about various navy ships and weapon systems that could be fitted in our imagination. I could look at the Type 45 DDG and think, well, they could mount a mix of Otomat SSM and MILAS ASW missiles in above-deck launch containers to give the ship anti-ship, anti-surface, and ASW capabilities. But these are just fantasies not constrained by cost, design, operational requirements, and so on.

The Royal Navy wanted a good AAW Destroyer with mostly European systems, and they got one. By investing in local defense industry, they preserve some measure of indepdence in defense technology. It a costly alternative to importing proven systems from abroad, but the price must be paid if you don't want the seller dictating in the future what you can and cannot do with their technology.

there has been 2 launches this year, Type054A-no. 546-Yancheng and Type054A-no. 550-Siping, yes this is the 14th one

infact there has been 2 launches a year mostly, so in 2012 we will see 14th and 15th, in 2013 we will see 16th and 17th and maybe slip in no. 18 by end of 2013, cus in 2009 they did manage to launch 3 in one year

so 18 Type 054s and 6 Type 052Cs by end of 2013 is very nice set of ships

I don't think that's recent or right. I saw a picture of the 7th 054A from HP last night and it was still sitting in this place looking a couple of months away from being ready to be launched. And I also have a picture a week ago showing the same. This picture should be from a while back. Here are what they looked like in the 2 most recent photos.
