re: PLAN Type 052 Class Destroyer

For Type 052D ASM missiles it is armed with YJ-12 ?

For YJ-12 some questions, i have read :
Performance : range 500 km, mach 6, warhead 200/400 kg, normaly sea skimming ?

And operational actually ?

Would also be carried by JH-7 and J-15 ?
For me JH-7 carried YJ-82 and KD-88, J-15 carried KH-31A ASCM version or chinese copy YJ-91 ?

If anyone knows more ?

If something sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.

The YJ12 might have a 500km range, or Mach 6 speed, or have a 200-400kg warhead or be a skimmer or even a combination of many of those features, but I very much doubt it will have all of those attributes.

The CM400AKG recently declassified and having been exported to Pakistan can reach a max speed of Mach 4-5.5, but it only has a 180-250km range, and only archives its top speed and range by adopting an almost ballisic missile like tragectory and using a steep diving attack profile. That should give us an indication of the technology level the Chinese are at ATM, and that is very impressive but still along way off from being able to develop the kind of ultimate AShM as you have described.

From the few pictures we have seen, the YJ12 appears to be a rather standard ramjet AShM, and I would expect it to have similar performance to Taiwan's recently deployed HF3 or maybe be a little better, maybe with a separate rocket powered warhead, which might give it a higher impact speed than its normal cruising speed, but I would not expect it to achieve anything like Mach 6, even in terminal mode with a rocket powered warhead if it adopts a sea skimming cruise mode.

Actually the Chinese paint reminds of this past American Fleet, whose primary purpose is also world tours, similar to the current PLAN.

Yes, that was the "Great White Fleet," and it was meant to stand out and be very visible to the naked eye.

Teddy Roosevelt sent it on an around the world tour to let the world know that the US Navy had arrived and was a world class force at the time.

What you see now days is that the US, the Japanese, and the German colors are all very similar. A low visibility gray for ocean service, a sort of Naval/Military neutral gray.

The Chinese, UK, and England are a much lighter gray, all of them, though not exactly the same shade.

Russia OTOH, is a much darker gray...probably well suited for the more northern climes, but significantly darker than the US colors.

The choice of camo is as much dictated by intended operational environment as it is by tradition.

For the USN, their traditional primary operating environment has been the rough Atlantic. The PLAN has been more used to operating in the sunnier and calmer Pacific, especially the littorals, where I suspect a lighter grey will blend easier, especially in sunny and humid conditions.

The USN Tico blended in better in that picture because it was overcast, but had it been a lovely sunny day, I suspect the reverse might have been true.

The most commonly believed specifications of the YJ-12 appears to be Mach 4 speed and 400 km range. That's why it was often dubbed the four-four missile, and apparently a larger ship based variant, possibly with Mach 5 speed and 500 km range, is under development.

The light color of the PLAN ships blends well along the horizon sea/sky line, with fogs or white clouds.

Apparently there is no different in terms of different shades of colour used except for the really light shades, as at far distance they all look like dark blobs.

O52D.. that's some HUGE APAR on the back just like the ones on front.. unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.. For some reason I always though the APARs for the back would be a tad smaller due to the limited size of the real estate on the back side of the superstructure since it's essentially the same as the 052C and their APARs are much smaller

Well, the APARs front and rear are the same size. Type 052D are larger and more powerful, than Type 052C, and flat, but front and back are the same size.

The front APARs on the Type 052C are the same size as the back ones on the Type 052C as well.
