ZHANJIANG, China (May 30, 2013) The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67), arrives for a port visit in Zhanjiang, the port of the South Sea Fleet of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy.

WOW! What a shot!

Why would a PLAN destroyer needs to fly an American flag when entering its own zhejiang port?

It is a friendly gesture beyond the norm, The Chinese DDG is obviously escorting the USN CG into port.

Never heard of this rule. And I don't think is making a fuss of it. Rather according to navy traditional. Only when warship entering foreign port, you need to fly that particular country flag. Never heard of escort flying foreign flag when doing duty in its own turf.

It's just a friendly act of goodwill.

Perhabs its just me, but im finding issues with this photo:

why would the chinese ship fly the US flag? it is foreign ships that fly the home flag. Home ships dont fly foreign flags on their own ports.

Is it a coincidence that both ships are caught navigating in the exact same direction at the same time? going to the port or leaving it?

With the strained relations betwen the 2 countries, with all the fuss thats going on, i wonder if both sides would find appropriate to make a very rare military port visit now.

I don't think it's PSed if that is what you're implying... folks here sometimes read too much into things! sometimes things are just exactly as what you see it!

As to the strained relationship like you mentioned this is the type of things that are exactly needed to 'unstrained' things because we all know the media sure isn't helping.

ZHANJIANG, China (NNS) -- USS Shiloh (CG 67) arrived at the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA(N)) South Sea Fleet headquarters in Zhanjiang, China, for a port visit, May 30.

The port visit to China is part of a series of military-to-military exchanges that are scheduled to take place this year between the two countries.

On the schedule of events are a PLA(N) hosted reception at the South Sea Fleet headquarters, ship-to-ship tours, sporting events and community service projects. Shiloh Commanding Officer, Capt. James T. Jones will also meet with the Vice Mayor of Zhanjiang.

The visit to Zhanjiang will allow the ship's crew a rare chance to experience Chinese culture firsthand, enjoy sightseeing and meet the people of China through sporting events, community service projects and public tours.

"I know each and every Sailor on Shiloh is looking forward to this unique opportunity," said Capt. Jones. "This will be a great chance for us to show our hosts the finest ship and crew the U.S. Navy has to offer."

Shiloh is a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser with a crew of approximately 400 Sailors assigned to Commander, Task Force 70, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan to support security and stability of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

The Commander of the US Pacific Fleet and the Captaain of the USS Shiloh are the two US officers pictured meeting with the Chinese officials who included the Cammander of the PLAN South Sea Fleet and the Vice Mayor of the City of Zhanjiang.

As well as, of course, the signature photo, which is all over the place, including offical US NAvy sites, and official PRC news outlet sites.

Ok found some

These pictures kind of remind me of a thought, for someone who kind of envisaged this line up to actually see it is something very special

Type 052C, Tico and a Type 071 LPD, 999 in this case, what a sight! Should happen a lot more often

Now THAT is a real keeper picture.

Nice pic. Interesting to note that the Tico is 567 ft long and 10,000 tons, the Type 052C is 505 ft long and about 7,500 tons, and the Type 071 is 670 ft long and 19,000+ tons.
