Well that's pretty much what I have been saying, especially wrt the 180km figure, as we have no idea how far away the target got before they fired the HQ16.

The piece itself is actually quite coherent. The helo taking off was indeed a AEW Ka31 (you can see the radar dish folded under the belly), and there can be no misinterpreting the crew member reporting that the helo has spotted a target 180km out.

On second thought, maybe there isn't enough there to positively say that the helo guided the HQ16 to it's target, but they definitely can use AEW helos on 054As, and the HQ16 is definitely hot launched.

I know for sure that the Buk missile, which the HQ-16 is based off of, has a maximum range (the latest variant) of 50 km. Given that the HQ-16 is slated to be a medium range missile, a similar range along the lines of the earlier Buk missile variants to the later variants would be the most logical assumption.

It's not concentric canister launch. Whoever told you that definitely has no idea what he is talking about and should probably stop talking in general. As I keep saying, each of those VLS modules has a central exhaust port, just like the Mk 41. If the HQ-16 were canister-launched, you wouldn't need the central exhaust port. To presume that the HQ-16 is encased in a canister designed for concentric venting IN ADDITION to standard midline exhaust venting would be the height of absurdity.

Don't be too quick with the put downs Mysterre, I read it as i.e's remark on CCL is wrt the new VLS on the 052C.

You mean the new 052D? Or what? We don't have any VLS photos of the new 052C's, which I presumed was because they were still just the revolvers.

What are you talking about?
I am not referring to the current VLSs you saw on 054A.

They are not revolvers thats for sure. flip couple pages back there is a black and white photoshopped top view.

Yes, sorry, mistype, I meant to say the new VLS on the 052Ds. All indications are the new built 052C+ still use the same old cold launch revolvers.

Haha accidentally typing a C rather than D or hot instead of cold can have great consequences.


And we've had pictures and videos that HQ-16 was hot launched for ages I think, that's not even accounting for the exhaust vent being indicative of its function as mysterre said.
