A point of information: the BBC is state owned. The domestic services are paid for by a tax on the ownership of TV sets. The World Service is paid for by the Foreign Office.

And why should you trust the media owned by Rupert Murdoch? Which media owners can be trusted?

In China, The Party controls the media. and every one knows.
In Europe, The Media controls the State, and not everyone knows.
In US, the Billionaries controls the media AND the State, and everyone understands and shrugs.

I honestly don't know which is the lesser of three evils.

I don't think everyone in US understands the billionaires control them, most still think they're 'free'.

Nah. Just the numbers being built should clue you in on likely deployment proportions. You have 8 052C's total and 18 054A's. Both of these are clearly meant for blue water ops and carrier escort duty in particular, especially now that we are fairly confident of the large numbers of 056's that will be built and what roles within the PLAN they are expected to play. The proportion in a CVBG will be roughly 2 to 1 in favor of 054A's. Count on it.

Hmmm.... personally I think that the Varyag will be assigned to the South Sea Fleet - this fits it's training carrier role very well and all that training can take place in nearby and PLAAF/PLANAF covered waters - easy to reach, resupply and if necessary, rescue.

Also, holding training operations in the South China Sea will serve as a warning to the other claimants, without the stigma (small though it may be) of actually using a 'combatant' ship.

I don't believe that the PLAN will ever order another of the 051C class of AAW destroyers, they were the last of the 051 class and were both make work and test vessels for the SA-N-6 SAM systems ordered from Russia, (I judge them to be very inferior to the 052C class) and along with the Sov's they will be trotted out on various commemorative occasions and for showing the flag but in the end will be quietly retired.

What will be exciting for me will be the appearance of the successors to the 052C's and 054A's - that will signal the future of the PLAN's surface fleet.

Pics similar to these were posted a few pages back, so - actual new radar? Old radar with improved cover/mods? Just a cover? or just inconclusive from pics?

with a new VLS system in front to boot.

so the new destroyer will have 1) new radar, 2) gas turbine powered 3) new VLS 4) new 130mm gun.

Why not start a new thread called "052C"? They are very different ships, as different as Arleigh Burke to Kongo.

so finally the new VLS will have more than 48 missiles ? remain HHQ-9 or newer one ?

how about the VLS itself, will it stay "round" or move to "square" one ?
